Creating Rain – Episode #71 Friday

We have had so many people ask how to create rain from scratch we couldn’t ignore it any longer. To make the rain we open our brush menu and change the following: Turn on Shape dynamics, and size jitter all the way up. We bring the roundness to 2%, and the angle to 90. Turn on scattering all the way up. Turn on Transfer and turn the opacity jitter all the way up. Now we have some rain. The key to making it look real is to use many different layers to aceive the effect. At the end we throw a hue/sat layer over top to mimic the haze of rain seen at a distance. Voila!

    Thanks a lot, great tutorial!

I love the ‘Avery as pinup’ pictures. A tutorial on how you made those would be awesome!

Making rain is a great fun. It gets the brain juices flowing to try and create an image where it’s FULL sun and not a cloud in sight let alone any real rain and make your image look believable. My 1st attempt at rain! Thank you both!

This is one of my CS5-project I´ve been thinking about for a while – pushed forward by Phlearn. The inspiration came originally from: http://www.learnphotoshoplive.com/index.html :-) To push me some further I also added splash with a new brush made tonight. Not that happy with the rain, but time is the limit.

Great pheaturette!! Should also watch the other two – and the music.

    Tx again for inspiring A-team!!

Took this shot at a Cathedral in France. Thought it would be cool to break the rough apart and let a little rain in. I couldnt figure out how to use a brush to get the appropriate angle of the rain so I had to go another route ended up making the rain in a modeling program.

This here was actually my first fake rain photo AND it was inspired by Aaron’s photo that used to be on flickr with the umbrella (I think you must have deleted it cause my link does not work anymore underneath my photo). Today I tried it again :)

Hm. I tried to attach a photo to this but I cannot see it so here is the link to the photo I posted on flickr instead ;) http://www.flickr.com/photos/pucki/5165920185/
