Thank you so so so much for this episode, and the attachment video- I am honestly so damn inspired. I want to do this maybe every 2 weeks or so, especially since I am starting college in about 2 weeks. My piece is a photoshop collage ish thing and it is out to those affected by 9/11. I may have only been in the 4rd grade when it happened, but it has affected me and had so many repercussions in so many of the lives that are close to me. After 4 hrs of working on the computer combing photos, Phlearn’s Smoke Image tutorial, and very helpful friends of mine, this goes out to all the lives lost in 9/11, may you RIP <3

Oh my I forgot to explain why this was so difficult for me! Well,
    - I had just put the smoke tutorial to use for the 1st time
-I have never done this type of manipulation EVER, and was ever afraid to share any efforts because of course I am my own worst critic and I felt like they looked so bad for a photoshop image.
-I placed my own quotes and tthoughts in writing, which I dont have much confidence in.
-It is SO hard to make letters with bodies in the blazing sun at Central Park.
-I tried something new for the 1st time, and I am damn proud of the outcome.

On another note I love the real Aaron, and the boooings are annoying as hell. You feel more comfortable and not so god damn happy all the time. :) You have the best learning channel I’ve ever seen on the internet…I’ve learned more from your videos than anywhere else combined.

Thanks Aaron and keep it up! :)

Talk about hard shit… I will probably re-shoot this image a few times until I get it to match what is in my mind. This is “Grounded”, the role my dog played in helping me beat Leukemia just by keeping the world from spinning out of control. I am behind the lens and this is my fiancé who has been there for every moment.

Never even attempted self-portraits before now. Thanks!

This video was awesomely motivating! We did take the challenge, my girlfriend Jessica & I, and came up with an idea Saturday pm. We had very little time for the shoot Sunday due to some schedule restrictions about the car we rented. So we shot in 45 minutes on Sunday PM with 2 great friends who accepted the short notice request. It was amazing!

Back home, Jessica did the compositing part in photoshop (thanks to your videos) and I did the color correction and minor skin retouches. We merged several shots, faked the tattoo, the cigarette smoke & the shaving and we aged the ‘mom’.

This challenge was really satisfying!! Too often we have ideas like that but postpone them for not so good reasons (or by laziness). Again, thanks for your motivation Aaron and keep going with Phlearn!

I loved this video!  It was great to get out of my comfort zone and try something hard!  We took our Christmas card pic on our bed last year so I played off that.  I would have done a lot of things different but it was a great learning experience!!!!

amazing aknacer but as always it’s not always the idea i think the lighting plays a verygood rule here .. please tell us tips for lighting setups and how to use umbrellas and these stuff because i’m confused i tried to do my homemade lighting and the result was too bad :(

  • http://photography.paulliebrand.com Paul Liebrand

    Wait… is that you? lol

This photo was a challenge because it pushed me out of my comfort zone completely. I hate taking photos around people, this one, you can’t see but there were boats all around. I had to edit some out, that were literally drinking beers 5 feet from the boat. It was awkward to say the least. I had to pour water all over myself… got some odd looks. But I am proud that I did it :)

You can get some inexpensive and good lighting from Paul C. Buff — get a pair of these guys and you will be good to go for starters http://www.paulcbuff.com/b800.php You will always want more though =)

Thanks so much. I Had a 4ft box on the right shooting slightly down on her and a smaller 3ft strip box to fill in the dress on the opposite side.

  • http://www.conkerphotography.co.uk Mark Nuttall

Well, this is REALLY late, and i’m guessing pretty much nobody is going to even see this now, but here’s my really hard shot. Hard for a few reasons: getting the lighting right, physical pain (ladders HURT, man!), lots of processing way beyond my level. I posted some info about how I got on in my blog, in case it helps anyone else at all: http://conkerphotography.blogspot.com/

  • http://www.conkerphotography.co.uk Mark Nuttall

This is a great shot – the idea is cool, and you’ve got a great composition – I never would have thought about shooting this from behind! nice one :) Mark

  • http://www.conkerphotography.co.uk Mark Nuttall

Slickly done, and a really cool process – kudos!

  • http://www.cap-photography.com Andrea Peipe

That is a really cool idea! I have a sketch book and esp. in the beginning I just tried to sketch what I was planning on doing or when I had ideas that I still wanted to do some time. But sometimes I have a great idea and then I have no idea how to bring it to life… so yes, you are right, sometimes it is hard! I wish I had seen this episode at the time you posted it ;) It would have pushed me! But I will still do it, just not this weekend.
