Since March 17, 2011
We have been making 5 FREE episodes each week since then, and we don't plan on slowing down. We are learning and growing every day. With your help, we will become the strongest Phamily of photographers and artists ever created.
Just For Fun.
The idea for Phlearn was tossed around for
more than two years before the first episode. We have gone through
many iterations before getting to be where we are now.
Ethan Davis and Aaron Nace were fans of Wine Library TV by Gary Vaynerchuck - He made daily video episodes about wine. Gary also did a great job bringing his personality into
WLTV, and telling the truth, even when it meant saying something was bad. We thought: "That would be
AWESOME if there were something like this for photography!" That is
exactly what we set out to do.
In the beginning, Phlearn was just a side project we were doing for fun. No one was getting paid, and no one minded. The idea was there from the start, just make
fun videos with
great content often. Because we stay true to that, we have been
growing very steadily since day 1.
Early episodes of Phlearn have 2 hosts - Aaron Nace & Avery Carlton. Avery and I were in a relationship, and it seemed totally natural to both be on camera. When we both wanted the same things out of life, Phlearn was a great way to express that.
Life happens, and each of us wanted to move in different directions. I continued Phlearn with support of the Phamily, and Avery is traveling the world and having the time of her life.
Brian Fisher
Keeping it all in the Phamily. Brian won a contest to design the next Phlearn logo. We collaborated on refining the logo to perfection. What other company has a logo designed by a user? That is what Phlearn is all about.

PRO Photoshop Tutorials
Not yet.
We are working on providing a membership login, and part of that will be integration of a subscription plan. This is a lot of work, and we are making sure that we are doing it correctly, so it is still a few months in the future. We will be sure to keep everyone updated.
Your e-mail will be sent as soon as your payment is processed. Depending on your particular transaction, this might take up to a couple of hours. For over 90% of our buyers, you will receive your e-mail immediately. If you do not receive your tutorial in a timely manner, don't hesitate to contact us.
You will have access as long as you have the e-mail with your unique link. If you happen to delete the e-mail, which we don't suggest doing, let us know which tutorial you lost, and we will replace it.

Photoshop
Photoshop CS5 Extended.
I have found that the "Extended" part is not something I really use, and if it were to save you money, I would recommend not getting extended.
CS5, CS4, CS3, CS2 will all work great.
Anything older than that, and you may be missing out on a couple of features that I find really helpful. Things like the Refine Edge dialogue are really great tools. If you are looking to upgrade for tools like the Puppet Warp, Or Content Aware Fill, save your money. I rarely use them.
Probably Not. Photoshop Elements is a really great program for doing simple edits and effects. Much of what we do involves going in a bit more depth. We provide Custom Brushes, Actions and more that can really be taken advantage of in a full release of Photoshop.
YES. Photoshop is available at JourneyEd.com at a great discount for STUDENTS and TEACHERS. They will often work with you as the parent of a student as well.
You have 2 options - Download a trial, or get a subscription.
TRIAL
Adobe offers a free 30 day trial of Photoshop and all of their other programs. The Trials are fully functional, and will give you enough time to figure out if the program is right for you. You may download your FREE trial

SUBSCRIPTION
Adobe just started offering subscription plans. It looks like they will be going subscription only in the future. To find out more info and sign up for your month to month subscription, go to
CS Subscription Editions
First, Click HERE. Now that you are in a great mood, let's help with the Photoshop. Phlearn offers a TON for FREE. For a super easy way to make any photo look great, check out our ACTIONS.
If there is something specific you would like to learn, just type it in the search field at the top of the page. We are even working on a new section just for you, taking you from Nothing to PRO.
I have tried many different tablets, and this one is my favorite. I don't use the full tablet area, even on this size, so a larger one would just be a waste of space. If you want to know more about why I use this tablet, and some suggestions on using yours, try these episodes for help.
Questions For Aaron
I am a photographer, educator, and entertainer. Those are in no particular order.
I have spent the last 11 years of my life dedicated to making images & learning Photoshop. During that time I have made
MANY mistakes, and learned from each. Now I get to bring all that knowledge to you, saving you 11 years of work.

I am very social, and love seeing what everyone is doing. The best way to talk with me is through TWITTER - you can find me

Photography is a part of the creative process for me, along with Photoshop, styling, painting, art direction, & storytelling.
Trial & Error
I taught myself for the most part. I know it makes me sound WAY old, but YouTube didn't exist when I was learning. For the most part it worked a bit like this: Buy this program, figure out how to use it yourself. Any questions? Too bad. Of course I am being a bit dramatic here.
One of the big reasons why Phlearn exists is to save people from the headache and the thousands of hours I had to spend learning how to do what I do.
I made them up.
Mostly because I am stubborn and I don't like to do things in a traditional manner. Most of the techniques I use, I came up with to solve problems I was having in Photoshop.
That is a good reason why we will never really run out of things to share, because we are developing new techniques all the time.
I make the time.
I believe people make time for what is
really important to them. It is more than an active decision, there really is no alternative.
I truly believe that I can help to make a positive difference in peoples' lives through Phlearn. Together we can
change the world of photography. When you believe something like that, working on it day and night becomes pretty easy actually.
I wake up early and go to bed late. I don't commute, and I work 7 days a week. I have a Phamily
50,000+ strong, and I am here to support them.
I print money at home.
No, I am just kidding. I am a salaried employee just like a lot of people. With a slight difference that I own the company that pays me.
Since January 2008
I started just like anyone else. I knew absolutely nothing, and was horrible. Special people in my life encouraged me, and with their help, I found my legs. Since then I have been running. (I am thinking about Forrest Gump as I write this.)
Since January 2000 - Photoshop 5.5
Photoshop started out as something silly to me. A chance to make fun images. At this time I didn't own a camera, most of what I did was using images I found on the internet.
It is long gone now, but I remember my first composite. It was a man playing golf on the top of a small mushroom in a field of grass. Also, I am pretty sure there was a castle growing out of the moon. During the day.
