Gradient Blur and texture – Episode #88 Phriday
Hey Everyone, thanks to thePandaBare we are adding a gradient blur and and a textured vignette. I see a lot of people reaching for their gaussian blur, and then adding a layer mask to achieve this effect. The only problem with that method, it adds the same amount of blur to everything, and then just masks some away, there is no gradual blur like a lens. Here I am creating a radial gradient around our subject, then turning it into a selection. We are then taking the selection into our channels dialogue, and on a new channel inverting by hitting CMD I. This should create a white gradient on a black background. This is our ALPHA channel.
Then we going to the LENS BLUR on a duplicate of the BG layer, and as our blur source we choose the ALPHA channel we just made, and inverting it will allow the blur to invert. Change the settings in the box to get the desired effect.
For the textured vignette, we are using an image found on DeviantArt. Be sure to get permission. We take the color out by hitting SHIFT CMD I, then CMD L for levels. Then change the blending mode to SCREEN, mask away the middle and the rest is history!
