How To Create Scary Eyes in Photoshop
Today is the last day of Halloween week, and we are celebrating by doing 2 different types of eye effects.

The first effect will be turning the eyes completely black, and just adding the highlights. This is a quick cool way to totally make a photo creepy.
The other eye effect involves making the iris brighter, and the rest of the eye darker, as well as adding some colors.

We have a contest this weekend – Create an effect like this for Halloween. The top 5 entries on Phlearn.com win a FREE PRO tutorial. Good luck, we can’t wait to see your entries, be sure to have them in by Monday.

Make sure to become part of the Phlearn Family on Facebook, conversate with us on Twitter, and #hashtag your Phlearn inspirations on Instagram. We want to know what the Phlearn community social chatter is about, and who is sharing it. You all keep us motivated to do our best.

This is my daughter and she is an up and coming artist living in Nashville.  This is one of her promo shots…without the black eyes of course.  Check her out at http://www.stacicarriere.com.  We both love phlearn!  Let us know if you have any cool ideas for promo shots.  We need stuff that stands out from the crowd!

Happy Halloween! There wasnt much detail in my eyes, so i couldnt exactly use all of the cool tricks in the tutorial…however, i did use other skills that i have learned from PHLEARN to create light in my eyes and some other mods.  I used a 580exII with a green gel to light my face and then removed the gel and popped the flash twice more off the ceiling during the 30 sec exposure to light the couldron i wanted more of a smokey effect in my couldron, but couldnt figure out how to get it with a long exposure…in there, i used dry ice and water, lit by 3 glow sticks….be safe this halloween and great pics by everyone that ive looked at so far, especially that dude who took is head off!!!!

    Thanks Aaron!
The fur is a custom brush (learning from Phlearn!).  The fur is a mixture of lengths, and 6 different colors, multiple layers, and opacities.  Other details learned from Phlearn include: Blend If (background, and some hair), Warp (upper body and some face), Pen Tool and paths (fingers, nails, toes), Custom paint (facial features), and Layer Properties.

Aaron, just another comment. Maybe this week we can do an episode about making text on an image look like a tattoo? There are some tutorials online but I don’t find them overly realistic. I know how to add a tattoo to an image from Google, but making one from scratch with the text tool is more what I’m talking about, like words on your knuckles.

    Yeah. That’d be sweet.

    I agree… I prefer the original one

  • brando

sure for the neck i used this oil based clay stuff that i bought for pretty cheap and sculpted the neck at about 5inches long and photographed it using the same lighting. colored that in photoshop to match my skin tones. I used two photos of myself one for the body and arms and the other for the hands and head. The eyes were done using the technique taught in this video! I would definitely recommend buying a bit of clay to use in photographs you can do really interesting things with it. hope that helps

I wanted to recreate the Die Antwoord photos and I am also a true lover of Tyler, The Creator. So I incoporated all this ‘~Tyler~Antwoord~’ and produced this.

Random Tips

Want to shoot on a micro level but don’t think you have a lens for it? Take a wide angle lens 18mm or so and hold it to your camera backwards, get close to the subject and control focus with your distance. You will have no aperture control so work exposure with ISO and shutter, but you will be now shooting with a micro scope!
