Lightroom Tethered Capture – Episode # 23 Tuesday

Today we take a trip outdoors to go over using the tethered capture feature in Adobe Lightroom 3. We use this on most of our photo shoots to help out with focus, exposure and more. For a little added Phun, we put a pillow under Aaron’s shirt to make him look a little bigger :)

Wow…loving the belly. I’m 6 1/2 months pregnant and I wish I looked that good. ;-) Maternity photo ideas? (I’m TOTALLY kidding) HAHA!!!!!

Great episode! Looks like I’ll be getting Lightroom soon. I’ve been wondering how to shoot tethered so this was *extremely* helpful!

We should do a maternity shoot!

Hey Anan, it will work with Nikon as well. We are trying to figure out a good time to post new episodes, what do you think?

Is this only in Lightroom 3? Or does the shooting tethered option show up in 2 as well?

I love how everything is going to be “absolutely awesome” with Aaron hahaha
    Great job, guys! :D

i think i like the new time. :D i’m from brunei…so the time difference is huge… altho, it almost didnt matter for me as i’m quite nocturnal hehe. It only usually confused my brain a bit when it’s thursday here and the latest episode says wednesday on phlearn. my tiny brain cant do the math. lol.

on another note, i think i;ve learned something new today from this episode. i’ve always thought tethering is well handy, only just never looked into it much.

*take notes on tethering…to be used on next shoot* :) TQ

You’re not interested in wi-fi battery grip for the 5d? Or eye-fi memory card?

  • Anonymous

I have heard great things about the eye-fi. Most of the time we are shooting tethered, we are on location. We don’t have anything to make a mobile WIFI network yet, but are looking into it :)

  • Anonymous

    So glad it worked!

    Love it Pat!
We have always loved your work!

  • Waseef Akhtar

Wow! That was way easier than I thought! Makes me feel dumb :P

  • Waseef Akhtar

LOL.. Not a bad idea :P

  • Marta_shumylo

    i had the same question

  • Tommy Danger

I’m really liking this Fat Aaron character. Can he be in more episodes? :)

  • Mattcopeland

“stool sample”?? Freaking awesome. I was thinking it at the same time you said it (which made me laugh harder). These just keep getting better and better. Nice work!

BTW — another possible topic for Phlearn: I mostly shoot wildlife and landscape shots and am just starting to dip my toe into studio work. What are the major differences between shooting through an umbrella and using a softbox? When would you use either?

    Thanks again,
    Matt

  • Kevin

I say that but I have no advice to give to you… you have everything you need! :)

I was asking about the brand of your bag in the Gear List Part 2, but didn’t explain it very well, I want to know the brand of your lightstands’ bag (Lightwear or something like that but didn’t found anything about this company on the internet).

I am french, so I’m not perfect in english.

    Have a good day!
    Kevin

You should definitely do a maternity shoot! I’d love to see the poses you come up with.

  • Mark OD…

Hi guys. I had 2 questions.
I was wondering if Lightroom tethered shooting will allow you to control any of the camera settings?
I also wanted to know if you had any recommendations on a “hood” for laptop screens so that you can shoot tethered in even the brightest lights?

  • Arenchou

You guys are hilarious. Love all of your videos!
Just got a quick question. Besides the hard drive, do you also have all your photos save in Mac HD?
    Thanks!

we use a Drobo for back up as well as Time Machine

I just found this site, so I started looking at old episodes, but the all freeze at around the 1 minute mark? Any reason for that? HELP!
