PRO Photoshop Tutorial

In this advanced Photoshop Tutorial, you will learn how to combine many exposures to produce an amazing final image. We cover in detail how this shoot was done, and the important things that needed to be in place in order for it to happen. You will learn some great tricks on lighting your subject for added emphasis on your subject. Not to mention an amazing cascade of water pouring down on our model.

Photo Shoot

I am always excited to shoot on location, as it brings so much depth into a photo. This shoot was conceptualized weeks before it took place, and a lot of the work was in trying to find a location in which to shoot. We finally found an abandoned farm house that was perfect for the shoot. With permission from the owner, the shoot was a GO. A lot of things have to go right for a photo like this to happen. Knowing photoshop well means you don’t have to leave everything to chance. We were able to pull this shoot off in a way that was safe for everyone, and knowing we had all the shots to make it perfect.

How to Make it Flood

That was the question on everyone’s mind before the photo shoot. When trying to do something like this you have 2 options- Do it for real, or fake it. In this case we did a bit of both. You will learn the awesome process we used to make this happen, and you will have the ability to do similar effects yourself.

More Aaron and the whole Phlearn Phamily have helped me break out the the rut of doing the same thing over and over again. It had gotten so bad that I was not even opening Photoshop anymore and I was just using lightroom. Phlearn has helped me re-discover Photoshop and have the confidence to explore new techniques that I would not have done prior to discovering Phlearn. Thanks Aaron and everyone at Phlearn!

More I've been experimenting with Photoshop for 4 or more years now, and I found myself constantly using the same techniques which did not help me progress and did not make my photos look too realistic. After coming across Phlearn, joining the daily discussions in the episodes and getting a Phlearn Pro video, I realized how much more there is to Photoshop. The episodes opened my eyes to new ways of editing a picture and making it stand out. Aaron covers absolutely everything there is to know about the program!

The Flood Pro episode that I have purchased showed me the process of making an image (explanation of the light sources was very helpful), as well as the post production. I learned how to make the model look perfect yet natural, I learned about making a composite and how to create a mood for the picture, as well as many more ways of creating a photograph that I still use today.

I highly recommend getting a Phlearn Pro to anyone who is interested in taking their creativity to the next level!

More I've been following Aaron's work since the days of the Flickr self portraits. I always left wishing I knew how he made those amazing images and feeling inspired, but inadequate. With Phlearn, I am learning those techniques and more! Not only does Aaron share his deep knowledge of Photoshop, he does it in a way that makes me feel as if I am sitting across from a friend. His delivery is at a great pace; moving quickly but making sure to explain the more difficult concepts fully, while not wasting time with endless repetition.

With some tutorials on other sites, the only way to use the lesson is on the image given. Phlearn tutorials leave me thinking of how I can use the techniques in other shots I've made. Phlearn lessons are not the standard Photoshop fare, but a much deeper learning experience. Aaron looks at achieving his goal in multiple ways and shares that unique insight with his viewers. Many of these "out of the box" techniques have been the most useful I've added to my Photoshop arsenal.

The abundance of free tutorials is amazing and the Phlearn Pro tutorials take editing to a whole new level! For an incredibly reasonable fee, I've learned not only how to fix/enhance an image, but a whole new way to approach Photoshop!

I look forward to seeing how the Phlearn Phamily grows! Thanks for all of the inspiration!

More Shortly after I started photography, I found Flickr. I started looking at loads of photo's from really talented photographers. The ones that really stood out for me, however, were the pieces created by the photographers who were experts at photoshop and incorperated into their work with an expertise that took my breath away on many an occasion.

So, I bought photoshop, installed it and experimented. It was like walking uphill, in knee high mud. I bought books and scoured the internet for the many free tutorials but they the books were too mainstream and the internet stuff too extreme... it took an awful lot of sifting through irrelevant information, to get anywhere I needed to go with my work. I think I was trying to learn for about a year before I found Phlearn. I've learnt so much in the last 6 month that my peers have suggested, on occasion, that I should be training people!

I've invested in most of the Pro tutorials and have learnt so much from them that I am now confident creating pretty much anything my imagination can come up with. The pro turorials are worth every penny (or cent) and the free content, on this site, is pretty invaluable too. Aaron's great teaching style takes all the hard work out of learning photoshop and makes it a real pleasure. I'm proud to be part of the PHamily!

More I have been a follower of Aaron's work well before Phlearn ever took shape. I was overjoyed when Phlearn was born. The website had single handedly revolutionised my way of learning photoshop. No more scouring for videos on youtube to learn or to find something interesting. Now I had a website where I could visit and learn something new every day. No re-hashed lessons like many other vloggers create...it was 100% original content.

I was a bit let down when Phlearn decided to expand its content to miscellaneous rehashed articles found around the web and on a thousand other websites/blogs. It was no longer unique and no longer comprised of just original content. Your later decision to remove all that content from the website brought new hope that not all focused incredibly talented startups have to become run of the mill, a dime a dozen websites.

Phlearn Pros are also a great concept. I totally respect the business model and have purchased a few myself. The level of detail that can be found in these tutorials is nothing short of amazing. It's like discovering photoshop anew every time.

Something I would really love to see is one or multiple Phlearn Pro episodes where you use 3d modelling software either to create a concept or better still, to actually create assets for the final image. I have never tried using these kind of programs and having a photographer's introduction to these applications might make more sense to us than delving into video tutorials found on the net which are more targeted to hardcore 3d artists.

Thank you for all that you have done.

More PHLEARN is awesome!

First off, Aaron is a character. I've watched a lot of other photoshop tutorials, but Aaron keeps it entertaining, supportive, and positive. All of that is really important for creating a learning environment that has worked for me. It's weird - watching a PHLEARN PRO episode is super-entertaining. I might honestly watch them even if I wasn't trying to learn... but as Mary Poppins once said: a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down!

And does it ever! I've gone from being intimidated by Photoshop to feeling confident using the many different tools, techniques, and strategies that Aaron demonstrates. No, more than that - now I feel confident exploring and experimenting in Photoshop.

I want to thank Aaron and the rest of the crew at PHLEARN for what they are building, and how much they have already taught me. Thanks guys!

More Phlearn is one of those exceptionally rare places where you can learn from someone (Aaron Nace) who is so good at what he does that he doesn't need to be teaching. But Aaron teaches because he loves to and he's a darn good teacher to boot.

The "PRO" tutorials on Phlearn over-deliver every time, sometimes reaching over 3 hours of pure content. These tutorials are vastly superior to anything available on any of the subscription learning sites or in any college.

The latest "PRO" tutorials have gotten scary good. It should be pointed out that only a hand full of people in the world can produce the level of work that Aaron does now. Naming these tutorials "PRO" is appropriate as he's a consummate pro at composite work rivaling photographers like Gary Land or Dave Hill.

Professionals like these aren't teaching their craft at any price. Yet through the Phlearn episodes, Aaron takes you by the hand and and gives you an education you can't get anywhere else (believe me I've looked).

More At first I thought this PHLEARN guy was off his ROCKER and had a lot of girlfriends. I quickly realized he means business. Phlearn is our go to resources for all things photoshop.

'Phlearn It' has become part of our every day vocabulary. Keep up the great work Aaron...you whacky b@stard.

More I started in photography about 2 years ago and decided to see where my imagination can take me. I quickly realized that I loved to edit my shots to create something that often the naked eye can't see. I heard a lot of chatter on different social networks regarding the use of Photoshop and how nothing in photography is real anymore...well, I couldn't disagree more. Photoshop is just the new painters canvas, and just like every major painter drew what their heart saw, we use Photoshop to bring to life what is in our minds.

I saw Aaron's work a while back on Flickr and was amazed by his level of creativity, the quality of his editing and of course his amazing photography in the first place. And this is where PHLEARN came into play for me. The first time I came across PHLEARN, I thought "Finally! Someone is providing and teaching the tools for those who want to express the images in their heads but didn't have the know how".

Just through the Free Episodes alone you can tremendously improve your skills and start to build images like never before, so just imagine what is possible with the PRO Tutorials. On top of all that, PHLEARN doesn't even ask for a lot of money for what they provide, which makes it the first honest and fair deal on the net with a serious return on investment.

Go through 3 Free Episodes and I promise you, you will be hooked on the entire PHLEARN package!
