Photoshop Tricks & Tips

General TIPS to help

Don’t get bogged down with what you CAN do. Focus on what you WANT to do.

Don’t put yourself in a time crunch. Allow the photo to come to you. It is great to step away from your image. Take a few days to edit. You will see things new each time.

Keep notes on what works, so you can go back to that

Simplify the image as much as possible while still getting the idea across.

Try something CRAZY – you just might like it. – colors, jump out of your comfort zone and style, try adapting the style of others.
Composition – look for it before you start, change it if you need to.
Look at what other people are doing with their editing, see if you can break it down & copy

Try all the blending modes even if you think you know which one you want

Fix clipping and edit with levels, curves – generally: neutralize, then expand by 5
Watch your highlights and shadows,

View the “mask only” to make sure you’re only masking what you want
Circle what you want to fix on your photos

Have some fun!

I got a fine for going to fast on my bicycle. I was like wtf and laughed at the officer which almost got me another fine…

Very helpfull tutorial again but why is Chris always talking so slow and with such a soft voice ? I always have to turn up my speakers…but it makes me laugh every time. It’s like walking through a tornado….on the outside it’s loud and fast( Aaron) and inside it’s all calm and quiet (Chris) …

I got taken to court for riding my BMX on the sidewalk when I was a kid.
I swear while to policeman was booking me… a call came in over the radio calling in a burglary?!?! *piiifft*

    They said in court.
“This is NOT the most important case today”.

So I got off with a one year conditional discharge. Ha! WTF??

Hey Aaron, those new title would make GREAT “short-cut” key prompts : )
It might be a good idea to save the text clips in a folder with your video clips and reuse them to save you typing them out everytime : )

BTW: that image of the ladys and the shotgun… very sexy *blush*

    BLENDING MODE SELECTION:
You can also click twice (not double click) on the blending options drop down, and just press up and down and it does the same thing and shift +/-

    Last but not least.
    I LOVE my Phlearn bracelet : )
I have a question. Do I have a really fat wrist or are they a little on the snug fit? :0/ lol

Tip:  Poor Man’s clipping in Photoshop

I do not remember where I got this tip from so I unfortunately cannot give credit but it is one I use in Photoshop sometimes for checking my clipping.  This is kind of another check layer similar to how you use the white layer set to color for black and white checking.

Here is how you do it:
    1. Add a Gradient Map layer on top of all your layers
    2. Change the left color to red and the right color to blue
    3. Using Blend If, move the white sliders (both of them) to around 5 (far left) and the black sliders (both of them) to around 250.

Now if your images are losing details in either the darks or lights they will show up as red or blue.  Just a quick way to determine if you are near the “clipping” thresh hold.

Hope you guys find this useful!

    Trick!
when im cuting out/in, i somtimes use smudge tool to blur the jagged edges. works usaly very well in blury background.

i lost my driving licent at my driveway…. well noting to proud of doing D.U.I
any way the cop was nice enough to follow me at home. they asked me if i had been drinking that night. i awnserd “what have i not been drinking to night. well guys, you better take me to the station”
i learnd my lesson(and had some big fine). never gone a do that again.
perhaps ironic that my freinds cal me Dúi (the name have no meaning in my country :)

Aron! I whoud love to see your work flow.
from start to finish, with some guidence through it

Parking tickets, the best way to get out of a parking ticket is to prove that the signing for it, ie the warning signs or street markings aren’t in place or have worn away etc. If the signing doesn’t comply with the law then how are you supposed to comply with it. Insufficient signing will get you off and the good part is you can take photos of the poor signing etc too prove your point – Photography saves the day again. :-)

Oh that is often a great today to step back and take a break and then get back to it! Sometimes you think “oh that is awesome!!” and sometimes you think “that is horrible…what was I thinking?!” ;)

And I do the same with lightroom! I love lightroom for that… fast decisions and pick! :D But I did not know you can give it different stars and such! How do you do that?! *wanna know!!!*

So what if you have a really bright sky in a photo because the sky was a really light grey and is kinda blown out as a result of that? I had this from a shooting at the weekend and could not fix it with levels and such…

And you said some really smart things that I loved today! I just cannot remember them word by word, have to watch again ;) I love the whole episode so much, thank you Aaron!

I used to park my scooter in an underground parking lot right beneath my classroom building…im an university student by the way. And one day i got a huge sticker on my rear-view mirror, saying “Your parking pass is overdue. Please move away instantly!”…i was thinking “WHAT???!!!!”. So I kept the sticker, and stick it on my scooter every single day I go to school, then I won’t get a new one. It’s a good solution to it huh?

Can someone tell me how Photoshop actions work? If I download from say… Deviant Art, where would I save them to & how would I access to transform my pictures? Thanks. :-)
