Use Complimentary Colors to Enhance Your Images

Complimentary Colors

Today we show you how you can use complimentary colors to make your image a bit more rounded. Because there is so much red present in the original image, we add a bit of green to even it out and add some interest.

We also get rid of some of the distracting elements in the photo, and talk about why sometimes editing is not so much about the technique, but the reason behind what you are doing.

Self Portrait Contest!

This week’s contest theme is Self Portrait. This is so exciting because we know so many of you have done many self portraits, and now is the time to show them off.

Submit your best self portrait in a comment below for a chance to win a Phlearn PRO, and have your image edited on Phlearn.

Contest Guidelines:

How to Enter
Simply add your image to a comment below. Please only submit one image each week. You're submitting images to be edited, so don't do too much Photoshop beforehand. We want to teach not just how, but why edits are being made.

How to Win
The person who best exemplifies the contest theme will be the winner. If two entries are close, the amount of likes, comments, and a great description will be the deciding factor. Winners are chosen by the Phlearn team.

Legal
By submitting images, you give Phlearn LLC the right to digitally alter your image and display on Phlearn.com, and use your image and any resulting derivatives to promote Phlearn.com. We reserve the right to change the rules whenever we want.

Here is my self-portrait. It was based on my past difficulties in my lifer –
“There were moments in my life, I really thought everything ended. Nothing would be better again.
At the edge of nervous breakdown I miraculously saw the light. I followed towards the brightness without hesitating. I knew I would be OK!”

This is my favorite self-portrait because it represents the hard time that I was passing by (stoping with college Engineer Degree to dedicate entirely to photography classes). It simbolizes my strength, discipline and belief (praying for good luck too).

I took this photo one day just as the sun was setting behind the tree. I hope it’s acceptable and isn’t too late!

Figured I’d throw my hat in as well. A recent self portrait I did, more or less showing off how much of a gear head I can really be. Film or digital its all the same to me, its all light sensitive material that lets me take photos. Film is fun for the process and digital is great for its ease of use and not having to deal with most of the process of film.

Also heres the same shot on my Flickr if you want to read a bit about this shot.
