I have been a follower of Aaron’s work well before Phlearn ever took shape. I was overjoyed when Phlearn was born. The website had single handedly revolutionised my way of learning photoshop. No more scouring for videos on youtube to learn or to find something interesting. Now I had a website where I could visit and learn something new every day. No re-hashed lessons like many other vloggers create…it was 100% original content.

I was a bit let down when Phlearn decided to expand its content to miscellaneous rehashed articles found around the web and on a thousand other websites/blogs. It was no longer unique and no longer comprised of just original content. Your later decision to remove all that content from the website brought new hope that not all focused incredibly talented startups have to become run of the mill, a dime a dozen websites.

Phlearn Pros are also a great concept. I totally respect the business model and have purchased a few myself. The level of detail that can be found in these tutorials is nothing short of amazing. It’s like discovering photoshop anew every time.

Something I would really love to see is one or multiple Phlearn Pro episodes where you use 3d modelling software either to create a concept or better still, to actually create assets for the final image. I have never tried using these kind of programs and having a photographer’s introduction to these applications might make more sense to us than delving into video tutorials found on the net which are more targeted to hardcore 3d artists.

Thank you for all that you have done.

I am from Mexico, i found out about Phlearn watching the [Framed] show staring Aaron Nace. What attracted me to the site was the creativity he injects in his projects. Actually, i was looking for something like that, a way to create cool ideas and translate them to a story through photography, and that’s what i feel Aaron does with his work.

Also, i was looking for a tutorial on how to enhance skin dodge and burning, so i decided to buy the tutorial here. I found it very useful because it encourage you to use your hands to paing… almost literaly, paint with a tablet. So, so far, Phlearn is a site that i stop bye every day.

Keep the good work!!!

I’ve been a photographer for a long time and have been using Photoshop since its first incarnation. I thought I pretty much had it covered. Turns out, not so much. I’m pretty new to the site but I have learned so much from watching Aaron’s free videos that it was a simple decision to purchase the PRO tutorials and I’m so glad I did. The quality of the production and level of content is awesome; in depth but clearly explained.

Aaron has such an easy, natural way of presenting information that you can’t help but feel you’re being personally tutored by someone who really knows and loves his craft.

Save your money on books, stop looking at 10 minute blurry Youtube clips and spend some time with PRO. You’ll learn more from one PRO tutorial than you will from most books out there combined. Where can you possibly get between 2-3 hours of professional tutoring per video that you can refer to over and over again for under $25 (even cheaper when he has a sale)? ‘Nuff said.

– Steve Parker

Newbie to Phlearn. But with these first two purchases, I’m confident Aaron and Phlearn will be added to my list of ‘e-Mentors’ who have helped me grow. I just purchased Vintage Action.

What I love about it (besides the look) is that Aaron has left the layers editable….allowing me to continue to make the image ‘mine’. Rather than my feeling I’ve pressed a button and now it’s someone else’s work…. on top of mine. Thankyou for that Aaron!

A few weeks ago, Jeremy Cowart tweeted about how great of a Photoshop teacher Aaron Nace is. So I checked out a few free videos on Aaron’s Phlearn site, and I was immediately hooked. I bought a Pro Tutorial and I swear I learned more about Photoshop in 3 hours than I have in the past 3 years.

Aaron is a highly skilled photographer and Photoshopper, a great teacher, and has a wonderful, quirky sense of humor. Absorbing all the information that Mr. Nace is laying down would normally make my brain hurt, but thanks to his goofy jokes and casual approach to teaching, there is no headache involved.

Living and working in South Korea, it has been very difficult to learn photography and photoshop. Without any friends, or photographers to talk to, I would spend hours browsing the internet, desperately trying to find any tidbit of information that would help me improve. All I could ever find were scraps, the odd tip, conflicting information everywhere, critique without advice, and it was as frustrating as it was confusing.

By chance I stumbled onto Phlearn one day, and was amazed at the idea of the Phlearn PRO’s, jaw dropping, beautiful images that I could watch being created from start to finish. I bought one immediately and stayed up late watching it. I was blown away! I now own more than ten. Not only did I learn vast amounts of new techniques, I learned how to look at my own work with a more critical eye, I learned how to make my images believable, and I set a higher bar for myself. As a teacher myself, I really believe Aaron is a great instructor. He’s always engaging, fun, infectiously enthusiastic and he holds nothing back, he makes mistakes, he corrects his mistakes, overcomes problems and he will show you what is possible if you keep trying and work hard at your craft.

Sure, other photographers offer ‘tell-all’ tutorials, but I have found these to have less information and a much higher price tag. Here we have a community. Wherever I am, I’m only a few clicks away from the best photoshop tutorials in the world, and I come back to them often. I’m not a professional photographer, but I love to create and Phlearn has given me the power to create images I am really proud of.

I’m a working photographer who has been learning Photoshop for at least six years and my long term objective is to get to the level of those that do composite work for big brand names in their ad campaigns. I did manage to get so far by watching hundreds of video tutorials out there in internet land but eventually felt that many in the industry were still protecting the insider’s knowledge.

Then came along Phlearn out of the blue breaking the mould in revealing the magician’s code of Photoshop advanced techniques via their excellent free and Pro tutorials. They also guide you on all the other stuff you need to know like conceptualizing ideas, cost of doing business, etc.

The vast majority would charge for what you get in a lot of Aaron’s free tutorials and you have to agree that the Pro tutorials are available at a very modest cost or the price of a few beers when on sale.

Hi, my name is Jandrie, and I am a phlearnoholic. I have downloaded a total of 30 Phlearn pro’s, and every single one of them has been great. They go into detail, from start to finish. They don’t only show the cool things, but also take you through the less exciting bits of making a great image. I have learned to take my time, and think about the image, does the image make sense.

The Pro Tutorials also showed me what was possible in photoshop, which is very handy when doing a shoot, so you know what you can fix afterwards. It also shows a great attention to detail. Since watching phlearn, my images have improved out of sight, and it’s all down to Aaron and the team. I would say it’s almost like having an unfair advantage. I can thoroughly recommend Phlearn PRO.

PHLEARN is awesome!

First off, Aaron is a character. I’ve watched a lot of other photoshop tutorials, but Aaron keeps it entertaining, supportive, and positive. All of that is really important for creating a learning environment that has worked for me. It’s weird – watching a PHLEARN PRO episode is super-entertaining. I might honestly watch them even if I wasn’t trying to learn… but as Mary Poppins once said: a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down!

And does it ever! I’ve gone from being intimidated by Photoshop to feeling confident using the many different tools, techniques, and strategies that Aaron demonstrates. No, more than that – now I feel confident exploring and experimenting in Photoshop.

I want to thank Aaron and the rest of the crew at PHLEARN for what they are building, and how much they have already taught me. Thanks guys!

– Michael Petrachenko

I went to university for photography, and while I loved it there and learned a lot, what I learned in the photoshop end came no where close to what Aaron’s tutorials have taught me.

I have purchased more than half of the tutorials and have more often than not, came out with a whole bunch of new tips and techniques that I wasn’t aware of or familiar with. I find myself saying out loud “holy crap that’s so awesome” or “oh my god I wish I knew about Phlearn years ago” and other things of the like many times throughout the videos.

Aaron makes the tutorials even more entertaining by being silly and fun! I’ve had numerous laugh out loud moments. I highly recommend purchasing any and all of the tutorials!

– Jessica Ginzel

As far as photoshop is concerned I’m very much in the early stages, but the way Aaron teaches even an old non-techie beginner like myself can follow along with plenty to learn in a very understandable way no matter how much, or little, they know.

Someday maybe I’ll actually get decent at this stuff, but for now at least I found a place where I can find plenty to keep me going without feeling overwhelmed or intimidated… Proud to be part of the Phamily!!!

– Scott Allan

First time I purchased a pro tutorial I was skeptical because I don’t normally buy anything off the internet. I had no idea what I was getting exactly, and frankly wasn’t sure if it would even be worth it since theres tons of videos on youtube.

After checking out a few of the daily tutorials I went ahead and decided to purchase the blacksmith pro tutorial. I was immediately hooked on the pro tutorials. I could not believe the phlearn team gave me over 3 hours of valuable learning information, and brushes.

At first I was phlearns greatest skeptic, but now a daily follow that has purchased 8 separate pro tutorials. Do yourself a favor, save some money and buy the package, because in the end you will want to purchase all of them and they are well worth it.

There is no better learning tutorials out there.

– Isaiah Vaba

Watching the daily free Episodes will give a great tips of a lot of technique, but u won’t able to get the full picture and Phlean Pro is your complete tutorial for your photography retouching world. I love phlearn pro, it trains me from a completely novice to a level that i can freely express my idea in my picture.

I have to say it is really the best on line tutorial ever you can found. Do get the pro now!

– Matt Liu

The Phlearn Pro Tutorials have completely changed the way I approach projects in Photoshop.

Not only have I learned so much new material, I’ve now seen how the tools I used to use on a regular basis used in completely different fashions rendering amazing results. The icing on the cake is all the extras you get with the purchase; the patterns, textures, brushes, actions, etc.

You guys have really built something great here. Thanks a lot!

– Nick Silvester

Photographer currently living in Chicago available for assistant and retouch work. Phlearn has been a wonderful guide for the past 2 years!

– Tina Brown

I started in photography about 2 years ago and decided to see where my imagination can take me. I quickly realized that I loved to edit my shots to create something that often the naked eye can’t see. I heard a lot of chatter on different social networks regarding the use of Photoshop and how nothing in photography is real anymore…well, I couldn’t disagree more. Photoshop is just the new painters canvas, and just like every major painter drew what their heart saw, we use Photoshop to bring to life what is in our minds.

I saw Aaron’s work a while back on Flickr and was amazed by his level of creativity, the quality of his editing and of course his amazing photography in the first place. And this is where PHLEARN came into play for me. The first time I came across PHLEARN, I thought “Finally! Someone is providing and teaching the tools for those who want to express the images in their heads but didn’t have the know how”.

Just through the Free Episodes alone you can tremendously improve your skills and start to build images like never before, so just imagine what is possible with the PRO Tutorials. On top of all that, PHLEARN doesn’t even ask for a lot of money for what they provide, which makes it the first honest and fair deal on the net with a serious return on investment.

Go through 3 Free Episodes and I promise you, you will be hooked on the entire PHLEARN package!

– Dan Hashemi

Phlearn is one of those exceptionally rare places where you can learn from someone (Aaron Nace) who is so good at what he does that he doesn’t need to be teaching. But Aaron teaches because he loves to and he’s a darn good teacher to boot.

The “PRO” tutorials on Phlearn over-deliver every time, sometimes reaching over 3 hours of pure content. These tutorials are vastly superior to anything available on any of the subscription learning sites or in any college.

The latest “PRO” tutorials have gotten scary good. It should be pointed out that only a hand full of people in the world can produce the level of work that Aaron does now. Naming these tutorials “PRO” is appropriate as he’s a consummate pro at composite work rivaling photographers like Gary Land or Dave Hill.

Professionals like these aren’t teaching their craft at any price. Yet through the Phlearn episodes, Aaron takes you by the hand and and gives you an education you can’t get anywhere else (believe me I’ve looked).

– Daniel Cook

Phlearn’s free courses trump most of the paid options that are out there and the PRO ones absolutely destroy them. Phlearn is the only place where I’ve seen practical solutions and examples to the problems that photographers face on a daily basis.

Aaron’s presentation of both photography and Photoshop techniques is clear, concise and enjoyable. The value you get from the texture packs and PRO courses is fantastic and they immediately take your finished products to a whole new level.

I love my weekly dose of Phlearn and look forward to the ambitious projects in upcoming PRO tutorials. Keep up the great work Aaron!

– Michael Woloszynowicz

Aaron and the whole Phlearn Phamily have helped me break out the the rut of doing the same thing over and over again. It had gotten so bad that I was not even opening Photoshop anymore and I was just using lightroom. Phlearn has helped me re-discover Photoshop and have the confidence to explore new techniques that I would not have done prior to discovering Phlearn. Thanks Aaron and everyone at Phlearn!

– Nick Cardona

Without Phlearn I would not be where I am now. I spent hours watching your tutorials, enjoying the high quality and friendly atmosphere. If I need to know something Phlearn is where I look first. You have taught me so much and you guys are just incredible for sharing your knowledge with us, not asking anyting in return. You’ve showed me things I hadn’t even considered to think about and I have to say THANK YOU for being just awsome! I’m very proud to be part of the Phlearn Phamily!

– Lia Niobe

PHLEARN is my go to place. I search endlessly trying to find information to help me edit my images and there are few willing to help. I give freely any knowledge I may have to anyone who asks, which is why I am a faithful patron of PHLEARN.

Thank you Aaron and all who assist you for the willingness to share so that the photographic community can grow. I have learned a great deal and that has made such a difference in my work which my customers are the beneficiaries. I have gained confidence knowing that my images are the best they can be from my perspective. Keep it up. I thing there is one or two more things for me to learn! :-)

– John Hill

I have been using Photoshop for a few years, but have just started my first 365 self-portraiture project. Wow, It takes a lot of work to make me look like I want to look. Once I found Phlearn, it was like an addiction. There is so much useful information on the site, and Aaron is truely talented and amazing (and a little crazy).

After watching hours and hours of free videos, I downloaded the retouching pack from the Pro Tutorials. There is so much information in there about what to look for, how to fix it, some truly amazing techniques made simple. Now, I just have to figure out how not to end up with a blue face, but artistically, I don’t think Aaron can teach me that. Just practice. I am at the beginning of my photography journey, but learning by leaps and bounds, thank you Phlearn, and Phlearn Pro Tutorials.

– Carrie Tucci

What can I say about Aaron Nace and the Phamily that hasn’t been said already? The ingenuity of Phlearn is something that Youtube will never have, nor will some of these back door tutorial sites that only Google can find. They lack the wherewithal to build our skills and hone in our true potential. Phlearn offers a step in the door that no other learning site could ever compare to.

The Phamily are some of the most nicest, and sincerest bunch of photographers and teachers you will ever have the pleasure of talking to. There’s also no comparing the Phlearn Pro tutorials to anything else on the web. I myself have purchased a few and they are without a shed of doubt, the most influential and in depth learning videos I’ve ever seen, and the dichotomy of each video lends a hand to all styles and formats. I for one am happy to be part of the Phlearn Phamily and will continue to visit the site as long as it’s longevity stands.

The future of Phlearn is fueled by us and the team and I am so blessed for all the help they’ve given me personally and for the pro tutorials that I’ll never stop watching. I stand on the shoulders of giants, and it’s been an ongoing learning journey that Im proud to be a part of.

– Ian Arneson

It doesn’t matter if you’re new to Photoshop or if you’ve been using it for years Phlearn’s Pro tutorials will teach you something new and help you understand the how, when, why of using each technique taught.

I’ve been using Photoshop for more than 10 years and Phlearn’s Pro tutorial has been the absolute best learning resource I’ve encountered.

– Bryan Dockett
