I’ve been a Photoshop nerd since version 3, and I can tell you that I’ve had a love/hate relationship with PS since the very beginning. As powerful as it is, PS is also one if the most frustrating and difficult to learn pieces of software I have ever encountered. I used to think of myself as somewhat of a PS “guru”, that is until I happened upon the Phlearn website. It was immediately obvious that despite his somewhat cavalier and funny exterior, Aaron was a guy who knew the in’s and out’s of PS like know one I had seen before.
After viewing countless free tutorials (hey, I’m cheap) I finally broke down and purchased several of the Pro Tutorials and let me tell you that I can unabashedly recommend these tutorials to anyone at any skill level. Anyone who wants to get the most out of PS and increase their productivity and creativity. I have rarely seen a person with a gift and passion for teaching like Aaron and I can honestly say that I have learned and applied something from almost every tutorial I have viewed: Something that cannot be said about every tutorial site I have used and there have been many!!
Thanks Phlearn, I’m better at what I love to do because of you guys!

I can’t say enough about Phlearn.
It’s the single most important resource for the development of my photography. But it doesn’t stop there. Aaron has taught me not only how to take a good photo, but he’s taught me a new way of viewing art, and the world for that matter. Anybody can explain the nuances of aperture, shutter speed, and iso, but it takes a special person to infuse creativity, change the perspective of others, and build a community.
Aaron’s achieved this is the last two years, and I cannot wait to see what he has in store for the future! Thanks for the invaluable gifts of art and PHamily!

I can’t tell everyone how helpful Phlearn has been to me as a photographer. Its like an addiction to a substance that helps you get further in life rather than holding you down or burdening you with expenses. Phlearn serves inspiration in a large daily dose of awesomeness; pure fun and light hearted honesty in every free episode made my the team.
The Phlearn Pros, of which I own 15+ of are the most helpful resource of photography tutorials that teach the things that I want to learn; I have never came across anything on the internet like it, and I even own a Lynda account.
I would recommend Phlearn to every skill level of photoshop user, from causal beginner to advanced photoshop masters. I would like to thank Aaron Nace for his enormous contribution to the photography/photoshop world and would consider him one of my greatest inspirations in this field. That being said, I will continue to support the community and Phlearn as a whole as long as I can even past a high level of photoshop proficiency.

Phlearn’s free courses trump most of the paid options that are out there and the PRO ones absolutely destroy them. Phlearn is the only place where I’ve seen practical solutions and examples to the problems that photographers face on a daily basis.
Aaron’s presentation of both photography and Photoshop techniques is clear, concise and enjoyable. The value you get from the texture packs and PRO courses is fantastic and they immediately take your finished products to a whole new level.
I love my weekly dose of Phlearn and look forward to the ambitious projects in upcoming PRO tutorials. Keep up the great work Aaron!

PHLEARN is awesome!
First off, Aaron is a character. I’ve watched a lot of other photoshop tutorials, but Aaron keeps it entertaining, supportive, and positive. All of that is really important for creating a learning environment that has worked for me. It’s weird – watching a PHLEARN PRO episode is super-entertaining. I might honestly watch them even if I wasn’t trying to learn… but as Mary Poppins once said: a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down!
And does it ever! I’ve gone from being intimidated by Photoshop to feeling confident using the many different tools, techniques, and strategies that Aaron demonstrates. No, more than that – now I feel confident exploring and experimenting in Photoshop.
I want to thank Aaron and the rest of the crew at PHLEARN for what they are building, and how much they have already taught me. Thanks guys!
– Michael Petrachenko
Phlearn takes you step by step on each video going back of items so that you dont have to keep looking in a book. A friend first told me about Phlearn and he and I have told anyone we know about them at the time I was in a class on photography the instructor told all of us point blank that while we had to learn how to edit our own photos it that part of the class would be self study because she did not know how to use photoshop.
Using Phlearn I revamped their ideas with my own photos. I passed the class with an A. After the class I was asked by the instructor if I wanted to teach a photoshop class….My answer was Phlearn.com. I am told the photoshop part of the class has gotten a lot better then it was in my day all thanks to Phlearn.

I own 18 of the Phlearn Pro Tutorials, and each one has taught me something new.
Aaron is such a great teacher, everything is explained in a way that I can understand. What I thought was once out of my reach in Photoshop is now at my fingertips. I have grown and expanded my knowledge to a point where my imagination and time are my only obstacles.
– Kim Whittemore
Hi, my name is Jandrie, and I am a phlearnoholic. I have downloaded a total of 30 Phlearn pro’s, and every single one of them has been great. They go into detail, from start to finish. They don’t only show the cool things, but also take you through the less exciting bits of making a great image. I have learned to take my time, and think about the image, does the image make sense.
The Pro Tutorials also showed me what was possible in photoshop, which is very handy when doing a shoot, so you know what you can fix afterwards. It also shows a great attention to detail. Since watching phlearn, my images have improved out of sight, and it’s all down to Aaron and the team. I would say it’s almost like having an unfair advantage. I can thoroughly recommend Phlearn PRO.
– Jandrie Lombard
Phlearn Pro tutorials have advanced my photography by leaps and bounds. Phlearn gets straight to the point, and teaches you in a way that is easy to follow along. The custom brushes that come with many of the Pro tuts are amazing, and make life easier. Don’t hesitate to purchase these, they are worth every penny!!
– Jeremy Hammons
Newbie to Phlearn. But with these first two purchases, I’m confident Aaron and Phlearn will be added to my list of ‘e-Mentors’ who have helped me grow. I just purchased Vintage Action.
What I love about it (besides the look) is that Aaron has left the layers editable….allowing me to continue to make the image ‘mine’. Rather than my feeling I’ve pressed a button and now it’s someone else’s work…. on top of mine. Thankyou for that Aaron!
– Paul Frocchi
Watching the daily free Episodes will give a great tips of a lot of technique, but u won’t able to get the full picture and Phlean Pro is your complete tutorial for your photography retouching world. I love phlearn pro, it trains me from a completely novice to a level that i can freely express my idea in my picture.
I have to say it is really the best on line tutorial ever you can found. Do get the pro now!
– Matt Liu
Using Phlearns tutorials and weekly newsletters have really increased my skills with photoshop, not to mention getting a ton of good ideas for projects I take on.
I recommend all my peers to check out Phlearn!
– Tucker Joenz
I run the marketing for a ski/snowboard company and this season due to budget cuts I was forced to shoot, edit, composite, and retouch our in store display campaign for 3 of the largest sporting goods chains in North America. I panicked, then scoured the internet for help and stumbled upon Plearn.
I watch a number of the free episodes and was able to handle the pre shoot, shoot, and composite, then purchased the Skin Retouching Tutorial to handle the rest. I can now proudly say my work is displayed in over 600 stores! All thanks to Phlearn. Great instructions and a great community! Go Phlearn!!!
– Erik Jorgensen
I went to university for photography, and while I loved it there and learned a lot, what I learned in the photoshop end came no where close to what Aaron’s tutorials have taught me.
I have purchased more than half of the tutorials and have more often than not, came out with a whole bunch of new tips and techniques that I wasn’t aware of or familiar with. I find myself saying out loud “holy crap that’s so awesome” or “oh my god I wish I knew about Phlearn years ago” and other things of the like many times throughout the videos.
Aaron makes the tutorials even more entertaining by being silly and fun! I’ve had numerous laugh out loud moments. I highly recommend purchasing any and all of the tutorials!
– Jessica Ginzel
I found many new and unique editing and photography ideas that have opened up my portfolio into so many new and fun directions. I really like how every element isn’t just pitched as a new trick or gimmick but a group of many final elements that are layered to create a wonderful image. There is so much useful information on the web but it seems as though it is very condensed and clear on this website. The tutorial and clips are very easy to follow and help you produce your own creative ideas.
– Scott Goodwill
I am from Mexico, i found out about Phlearn watching the [Framed] show staring Aaron Nace. What attracted me to the site was the creativity he injects in his projects. Actually, i was looking for something like that, a way to create cool ideas and translate them to a story through photography, and that’s what i feel Aaron does with his work.
Also, i was looking for a tutorial on how to enhance skin dodge and burning, so i decided to buy the tutorial here. I found it very useful because it encourage you to use your hands to paing… almost literaly, paint with a tablet. So, so far, Phlearn is a site that i stop bye every day.
Keep the good work!!!
– Daniel Flores
I have been a follower of that “aknacer” since I finded him on Flickr years ago. His photos was so surreal, provocative, and super, SUPER realistic. I didn’t know how he did that. But I know now (just a little).
On the PRO tutorials, Aaron explains absolutely everything about the creation of one of his images. You choose what edition do you want to learn, you pay, you watch, and you know. Simply like that, better than a college class, and a lot cheaper. It’s perfect!
– Ruben Chase
I’ve been experimenting with Photoshop for 4 or more years now, and I found myself constantly using the same techniques which did not help me progress and did not make my photos look too realistic. After coming across Phlearn, joining the daily discussions in the episodes and getting a Phlearn Pro video, I realized how much more there is to Photoshop. The episodes opened my eyes to new ways of editing a picture and making it stand out. Aaron covers absolutely everything there is to know about the program!
The Flood Pro episode that I have purchased showed me the process of making an image (explanation of the light sources was very helpful), as well as the post production. I learned how to make the model look perfect yet natural, I learned about making a composite and how to create a mood for the picture, as well as many more ways of creating a photograph that I still use today.
I highly recommend getting a Phlearn Pro to anyone who is interested in taking their creativity to the next level!
– Natalia Osmolovskaya
I am quite new to the Phlearn Phamily (only about 2 weeks), but since I found Phlearn I haven’t stopped. I’ve watched ever episode from the most current going back MONTHS and am still going. The wealth of knowledge within the free content has already lead me to purchases a couple Pro content just within the last week. The transparency of Phlearn coupled by the opportunity to free involved really does give this website/service a community feel.
Thanks for everything that the entire Phlearn team does and I’m happy to be a part of the Phamily.
– Jesse Gross
It doesn’t matter if you’re new to Photoshop or if you’ve been using it for years Phlearn’s Pro tutorials will teach you something new and help you understand the how, when, why of using each technique taught.
I’ve been using Photoshop for more than 10 years and Phlearn’s Pro tutorial has been the absolute best learning resource I’ve encountered.
– Bryan Dockett
A few weeks ago, Jeremy Cowart tweeted about how great of a Photoshop teacher Aaron Nace is. So I checked out a few free videos on Aaron’s Phlearn site, and I was immediately hooked. I bought a Pro Tutorial and I swear I learned more about Photoshop in 3 hours than I have in the past 3 years.
Aaron is a highly skilled photographer and Photoshopper, a great teacher, and has a wonderful, quirky sense of humor. Absorbing all the information that Mr. Nace is laying down would normally make my brain hurt, but thanks to his goofy jokes and casual approach to teaching, there is no headache involved.
– Patrick Niddrie
I have only recently come to learn about Phlearn and Aaron Nase and boy, has this combo changed my world!
Having come from a CGI/3D animation background, I’ve long used Photoshop but in a very different way to how PS is used in photo manipulation and photography. The thing about Photoshop is that it can be used in so many different applications across multiple industries. These Phlearn tutorials are just so incredibly helpful even to a seasoned PS user such as myself.
I take my hat off to Aaron for being so generous with sharing his vast knowledge and experience with the software. I have never come across any other teacher who has been so thorough and in-depth with instruction. The tutorials are low-cost and Aaron has been so kind to offer this exceptional education to the general public.
If you have always dreamed about being able to perform magic with your photos, then you will not be disappointed with what Phlearn has to offer!
– Mark Soon
Phlearn is one of those exceptionally rare places where you can learn from someone (Aaron Nace) who is so good at what he does that he doesn’t need to be teaching. But Aaron teaches because he loves to and he’s a darn good teacher to boot.
The “PRO” tutorials on Phlearn over-deliver every time, sometimes reaching over 3 hours of pure content. These tutorials are vastly superior to anything available on any of the subscription learning sites or in any college.
The latest “PRO” tutorials have gotten scary good. It should be pointed out that only a hand full of people in the world can produce the level of work that Aaron does now. Naming these tutorials “PRO” is appropriate as he’s a consummate pro at composite work rivaling photographers like Gary Land or Dave Hill.
Professionals like these aren’t teaching their craft at any price. Yet through the Phlearn episodes, Aaron takes you by the hand and and gives you an education you can’t get anywhere else (believe me I’ve looked).
