Newbie to Phlearn. But with these first two purchases, I’m confident Aaron and Phlearn will be added to my list of ‘e-Mentors’ who have helped me grow. I just purchased Vintage Action.
What I love about it (besides the look) is that Aaron has left the layers editable….allowing me to continue to make the image ‘mine’. Rather than my feeling I’ve pressed a button and now it’s someone else’s work…. on top of mine. Thankyou for that Aaron!
– Paul Frocchi
Phlearn got me out of my own slump. I was looking to learn some new PS skills but all the resources online seemed to just be rehashed and reposted, then I found Aaron/ Phlearn.
I have learned a great deal from the site, but my favorite part is referring other people in a similar situation to the site.
– Adam Elmakias
I have been using Photoshop for a few years, but have just started my first 365 self-portraiture project. Wow, It takes a lot of work to make me look like I want to look. Once I found Phlearn, it was like an addiction. There is so much useful information on the site, and Aaron is truely talented and amazing (and a little crazy).
After watching hours and hours of free videos, I downloaded the retouching pack from the Pro Tutorials. There is so much information in there about what to look for, how to fix it, some truly amazing techniques made simple. Now, I just have to figure out how not to end up with a blue face, but artistically, I don’t think Aaron can teach me that. Just practice. I am at the beginning of my photography journey, but learning by leaps and bounds, thank you Phlearn, and Phlearn Pro Tutorials.
– Carrie Tucci
I have a lot of PRO tutorials, and they are all fantastic. The basic phlearn is great, but in the PRO tutorials Aaron goes much more in depth. In addition, in the PRO tutorials you can understand how to create a quality photo from the beginning to the end, and this allows also to understand the creative concept that there is behind all.
Some great skills in photoshop are explained and can be therefore applied to your shots. In one year, thanks to basic phlearn, but much more thanks to the PRO tutorials I bought, I reached a level in photoshop which I would have never thought I would have reached.
– Stefano Tealdi
The Phlearn Pro Tutorials have completely changed the way I approach projects in Photoshop.
Not only have I learned so much new material, I’ve now seen how the tools I used to use on a regular basis used in completely different fashions rendering amazing results. The icing on the cake is all the extras you get with the purchase; the patterns, textures, brushes, actions, etc.
You guys have really built something great here. Thanks a lot!
– Nick Silvester
WOW. I’m not a PS guru at all and do most post editing in Aperture…BUT…these tutorials and textures are amazing.
A game changer for me and my work. Thanks!
– Paul Petch
I can’t say enough about Phlearn.
It’s the single most important resource for the development of my photography. But it doesn’t stop there. Aaron has taught me not only how to take a good photo, but he’s taught me a new way of viewing art, and the world for that matter. Anybody can explain the nuances of aperture, shutter speed, and iso, but it takes a special person to infuse creativity, change the perspective of others, and build a community.
Aaron’s achieved this is the last two years, and I cannot wait to see what he has in store for the future! Thanks for the invaluable gifts of art and PHamily!
– Jack Temple
I met Aaron at B&H in NYC for a free lesson on retouching a portrait and I was completely blown away by his skills, his style and -of course- enthusiasm! Then I follow the guy on twitter and he announces that he’s launching “something” called Phlearn! I give it a try and I became addicted to “phlearn” something new almost every day. Then, he launched the first Phlearn PRO and I became addicted once again. Nothing is left out, he tells you EVERYTHING he knows while he’s doing it! You see him doing the stuff step by step, explaining it to you and then you do it and magic happens!! I actually keep notes with the minutes and seconds of the videos of stuff I like to keep for future references (like how to apply some make up or how to put light on a fairy’s wings)
Phlearn PRO tutorials are phenomenal. Almost all I know in photoshop is thanks to those tutorials. I was completely lost before this, I had some skills but without direction and since Phlearn I’ve been able to apply Aaron’s techniques to my own style and I’m more than satisfied with the results.
I gotta warn you, you’ll get used to Aaron’s energy and style and it’s going to be hard for you to go back other tutorials from another artist.
– Eduardo Perez
Several years ago, when I first got into photography I looked online for tips, tutorials and so on, but there was very little good information out there. Then I took Aaron’s class that he used to teach and I started watching Phlearn when it came out and my skills dramatically improved in the whole understanding of photography, along with my photoshop abilities.
I have been using photoshop for 8 years now and ever since I took Aaron’s class and watched some of the Pro tutorials, I have become significantly more fluent in photoshop. It’s funny because when I feel I understand how most conceptual images are put together and edited, Aaron comes out with a new technique that changes my whole perspective.
– Jeff Thomas
Even taking into consideration the seemingly endless amounts of free tutorials on the internet, I was hard pressed on looking for something that contained a purpose in its teachings. Mostly all you would find is how to apply a one-off text effect you’ll never use in your work, or how to pull off a half-baked manipulation where the steps and narration get so verbatim that you get to the point where you’ll see yourself following directions for a couple of adjustment layers without any other guidance besides “Set hue to +34, lightness to -7″ and so on, and so forth.
Taking this into paid services such as creativeLIVE, or perhaps even Lynda.com; although you do receive some supportive commentary, you’ll find yourself doing a lot more review work and get to the end figuring out that the person teaching you this segment might benefit from some tutorials themselves.
I feel as though PhlearnPRO changes this. These tutorials on an arbitrary scale of work are not completely out of the norm, but the combination of thought process and conversation throughout the edit from the sketch to the sharpening will have you interested in the *why* as much if not more than the *how*. This is imperative to visual learners (Which I’m assuming by coming to websites such as these, we all are), and I feel that Phlearn nails this. I knew of the tools of photoshop and how to use them properly, but PhlearnPRO taught me *why* to use them and *when* would be the best time to according to what is on my canvas. That help alone has been immeasurable, and the experience of watching PhlearnPRO has been a pleasurable one, as you get to know Aaron on a professional, as well as personal level.
I recommend this service to anyone who’s been looking for that purpose in their post-processing that will give them the drive to execute work that they have had in their heads, and the confidence to follow through without feeling like you’ve bit off more than you can chew.

There’s not much more to say about Phlearn and the work of Aaron Nace that hasn’t already been said, but it bares meaning every time someone spouts a similar story. Phlearn has been invaluable to my development as a photographer. Whether it be learning new techniques, understanding pitfalls and avoiding cliches/ common mistakes, learning important business practice or just taking the time to humble ones self to the creative brilliance this site is always oozing.
The Pro Tutorials are just too good to comprehend sometimes. Being given so much for so little is a rare encounter these days, but it exists here, at Phlearn. The tutorials provide stunning depth and tutelage for amazing images at very affordable prices. Money aside though, the thing I enjoy most about these videos is the way Aaron walks through an image, recognizing which bits may need to be explained multiple times and never ignoring the fact he has made these video to TEACH. He is not, like so many other tutorial sites, just showing you how he made an image and leaving up to you to figure out the details.
I could speak for hours on just how brilliant this site is, but I won’t because the site is more than capable to show you for itself. A unique website that accommodates to all skill levels, whether you watch a video a day, or return when you need help, you can get something from Phlearn immediately.
– John Liot
I’ve been a Photoshop nerd since version 3, and I can tell you that I’ve had a love/hate relationship with PS since the very beginning. As powerful as it is, PS is also one if the most frustrating and difficult to learn pieces of software I have ever encountered. I used to think of myself as somewhat of a PS “guru”, that is until I happened upon the Phlearn website. It was immediately obvious that despite his somewhat cavalier and funny exterior, Aaron was a guy who knew the in’s and out’s of PS like know one I had seen before.
After viewing countless free tutorials (hey, I’m cheap) I finally broke down and purchased several of the Pro Tutorials and let me tell you that I can unabashedly recommend these tutorials to anyone at any skill level. Anyone who wants to get the most out of PS and increase their productivity and creativity. I have rarely seen a person with a gift and passion for teaching like Aaron and I can honestly say that I have learned and applied something from almost every tutorial I have viewed: Something that cannot be said about every tutorial site I have used and there have been many!!
Thanks Phlearn, I’m better at what I love to do because of you guys!
– Mark Feliciano
I knew from the first video that I had found something life-changing.
– Christian Lawson
Aaron Nace and his wonderful team at Phlearn are doing some amazing things for all of us.
They always come up with great and inspiring ideas and tutorials for us to learn from. Aaron is probably the best and funniest Photoshop Master on the internet right now.
I tell all of my friends about Phlearn because I know that the wealth of knowledge you will get from them will help you 10 fold.
– Eleazar Paradise
Aaron Nace and the team at Phlearn have put together some amazing resources for photographers and digital artists.
For photographers and artists interested in learning advanced shooting and Photoshop techniques, Phlearn is second to none.
– Pye Jirsa, Co-Founder SLR Lounge
I have been a photographer for almost 12 years, currently in grad school and have yet to encounter tutorials that blow my mind like Phlearn’s. I am addicted to downloading tutorials, even if it’s material I have learned at the academy.
Aaron’s easy to follow videos are perfect for serious artist. I am currently a finalist in Canon Project imagination because of the material I have learned on this site.
– Sami Saxon
I am from Mexico, i found out about Phlearn watching the [Framed] show staring Aaron Nace. What attracted me to the site was the creativity he injects in his projects. Actually, i was looking for something like that, a way to create cool ideas and translate them to a story through photography, and that’s what i feel Aaron does with his work.
Also, i was looking for a tutorial on how to enhance skin dodge and burning, so i decided to buy the tutorial here. I found it very useful because it encourage you to use your hands to paing… almost literaly, paint with a tablet. So, so far, Phlearn is a site that i stop bye every day.
Keep the good work!!!
– Daniel Flores
Using Phlearns tutorials and weekly newsletters have really increased my skills with photoshop, not to mention getting a ton of good ideas for projects I take on.
I recommend all my peers to check out Phlearn!
– Tucker Joenz
I run the marketing for a ski/snowboard company and this season due to budget cuts I was forced to shoot, edit, composite, and retouch our in store display campaign for 3 of the largest sporting goods chains in North America. I panicked, then scoured the internet for help and stumbled upon Plearn.
I watch a number of the free episodes and was able to handle the pre shoot, shoot, and composite, then purchased the Skin Retouching Tutorial to handle the rest. I can now proudly say my work is displayed in over 600 stores! All thanks to Phlearn. Great instructions and a great community! Go Phlearn!!!
– Erik Jorgensen
Hi, my name is Jandrie, and I am a phlearnoholic. I have downloaded a total of 30 Phlearn pro’s, and every single one of them has been great. They go into detail, from start to finish. They don’t only show the cool things, but also take you through the less exciting bits of making a great image. I have learned to take my time, and think about the image, does the image make sense.
The Pro Tutorials also showed me what was possible in photoshop, which is very handy when doing a shoot, so you know what you can fix afterwards. It also shows a great attention to detail. Since watching phlearn, my images have improved out of sight, and it’s all down to Aaron and the team. I would say it’s almost like having an unfair advantage. I can thoroughly recommend Phlearn PRO.
– Jandrie Lombard
First time I purchased a pro tutorial I was skeptical because I don’t normally buy anything off the internet. I had no idea what I was getting exactly, and frankly wasn’t sure if it would even be worth it since theres tons of videos on youtube.
After checking out a few of the daily tutorials I went ahead and decided to purchase the blacksmith pro tutorial. I was immediately hooked on the pro tutorials. I could not believe the phlearn team gave me over 3 hours of valuable learning information, and brushes.
At first I was phlearns greatest skeptic, but now a daily follow that has purchased 8 separate pro tutorials. Do yourself a favor, save some money and buy the package, because in the end you will want to purchase all of them and they are well worth it.
There is no better learning tutorials out there.
– Isaiah Vaba
The first thing i do when i get home from work is to visit the Phlearn website for news. At first i went through all the free episodes but i ran out of news really fast. I took a step further and bought a Phlearn PRO and I think that they are the best tutorial videos I have seen. And I watch a lot of videos.
Aaron is a great teacher with the biggest enthusiasm. Sometimes I think it is his personality that inspires me more than photoshop itself. Exactly the way a teacher is supposed to work.
Thank you Phlearn for your existence.

Thanks for putting out some of the most accessible, interesting, and informative tutorials on the web. I am simply in awe of your Photoshop knowledge and techniques. I’ve been a working landscape photographer since 2008 and I thought I knew my way around the program. How wrong I was! In every Phlearn tutorial I’ve watched I’ve learned one, or two, or ten new things about Photoshop. But I’m not just talking about tips, tricks, and shortcuts. Your techniques are fantastic as well. I had no idea you could accomplish so much with the simple brush tool.
But of course, technical Photoshop knowledge alone doesn’t create great images. I’ve really gotten a lot out of hearing your theories and ideas on color and light matching for composites. It makes all the difference in the world. I can honestly say that even though I’ve only watched a handful of Phlearn tutes so far my portrait images are light years ahead of where they were only a few months ago.
Thanks much and keep up the great work.
– Josh Cripps
I absolutely love the pro tutorials, they are so so so in depth and very informative! The steps/how to is really easy to follow. I love the free episodes but with the pro you get all these extras and that helps so so much, I highly recommend buying that pro episode you have had your eye on, it is so worth it! They are cheap and amazing!
– Nikki Froom
