How to Create a Frame Animation in Photoshop

In today’s episode, we show you how to make a Frame Animation in Photoshop

Getting Started

First we start off by making a selection using the Pen tool.  We then load that selection as a layer mask and bring in a couple images we want in our Frame Animation.

Creating a Frame Animation

Next we open up our Timeline and go to Frame Animation.  We then put our images into the order we want.  When we play our animation, it looks as if we are cycling through different prints.

Finishing Touches

We end it all with exporting our animation so we can view our work online.

Loved this episode!! Thank you so much, been wanting to know how to do all that for awhile.

Hey, did you know this: if you hold down SHIFT and click with the pen tool it will automatically give you a perfectly straight line from the last anchor point, way cool “guys”!?

Thank you again and again and again…. (I guess straight lines are always perfectly straight, kinda redundant, lol)

ON THE FIRST photo, you cut out the thumb. but, when you look at the animation, it shows the thumb on all the pics. what am I missing?

What a revelation. I always learn something new and not just the overall objective, but also from the processes used to get there.
Can the presentations have an option to run a bit slower? As an older person I find it quite difficult to keep pace.

Awesome as always Aaron! I followed your steps and was able to create the frame image. However, I’m not able to figure out how to low image to Facebook and Instagram. Is that possible?

I watched your video and I am having problems. Far right PS6, I have group 1, layer 1, then the pics 1 thru 3 and the background. All the pics are in the same window and will not do individual frames. When I shift to group the pics, 7:31 on your video, I can’t shuttle the pics. When I use the transform key, I can only see the pics IF I move them out of the way. The pics will NOT shuttle using the keys under LAYER. Thank you for any help.

during the stacking process of this project does the pictures have to be A PNG file instead of a jpeg file.Because my pictures that i had are coming in different sizes.when i add 4 pictures to my stack the first one is ok but the next one is a little smaller and the next is even smaller in size.

At first when you said “jif” instead of “gif” i was like oh my god i can’t believed it i had so much trust in you. But then you said “gif” and it gave so much relief and i can go on with my life now.
