Just finished Photoshop 101 series. This is exactly the kind of video learning I was looking for. What I like about this series is it goes into detail about what each menu item is. Aaron not only discusses what it is but how and if it is useful along with examples so you really get a clear picture of what Photoshop can do. You walk away with a clear understanding of the capabilities of Photoshop along with great tips and tricks on how to achieve a look along with several ways to accomplish it. I was already familiar with Photoshop when I started the course. I still watched the whole series because it was the tidbits of information, explanations and practical applications that really makes this series worthwhile. I look forward to watching 201-301 along with the retouching series. I’m currently looking at the Lightroom tutorial since I am pretty certain that it will take the same approach as Photoshop tutorials here. Thanks Aaron & Phlearn for all your hard work.
I am totaly flashed… I bought this package because I knew only a few things in Photoshop and I was missing all the basics. No I am working through every single section. It is awesome, the teacher speaks very clear so that I understand everything (I am not native english speaking). And he does it in a very positive and motivating manner. Thumbs up
Wow. Just finished the last lesson in Photoshop 101. Consider that when you open PS you are confronted with 3 main screen areas, 28 tools and 10 top level (and I can’t be bothered to count the submenus) menus it is pretty overwhelming. Further to walk through every single one of them, sometimes in great detail, others less so because they are either not really applicable to photo editing or are covered in gory detail in a whole other offering is pretty amazing. Why?? Because Aaron doesn’t put you to sleep, he shows on photos what they can do, should do and you might not really want them to do. The shortcuts, the pros and cons, the gotcha’s. And then finishes with a photo that he walks you through the full edit using all the main tools and concepts covered from layers, to masks, brushes to cropping, colour changes to retouching. I found it really pulled together the things I had learned in the first 7 lessons and also the ideas I had learned using the free tutorials and in fact I can now appreciate them even more. If you haven’t tried this course you really should. I can’t think of a reason not to!!
WOW. I have done probably 90% of the free beginner videos and decided to chance the pro Photoshop bundle (101-301). I’ve done chapters 101-1 and 101-2 and am very impressed. More detail, pulls things together, files to use to work along with Aaron etc etc. If you are wondering if it is worth the money I would say absolutely based on the 2 chapters I’ve done so far. I’ll add to this review as time goes by.
Hello from Austria (not Australia) :))))
I bought this training (Photoshop 101-301) some weeks ago. The reason is … I love Aaron Nace (no, I’m not payed for saying this). I’m constantly attending a lot of free tutorials on the web but of all the various instructors out there – he’s the best: humorous, strict on the point, with an endless knowledge, …
Although I’m an advanced user of Photoshop I benefit so much from this training. There are so many tips and tricks I didn’t even know before or have forgotten them. And it’s so good to get this huge topic well constructed and collected, always as a handy and comprehensive reference guide by your side!
I’m currently thinking of buying the next training: Retouching 101-303. Maybe in some weeks.
Thank you so much Aaron for your work! Life is so much easier and so much more fun with your tutorials! :)))
Warm regards and I wish all of you a great time :)))))))
OMG! WHY ONLY 5 STARS?
I would give as many I could.
I am very skeptical about online tutorials because they are usually only for limited period of time.
However, these files are yours forever and you can always go back and forth as much as you want to.
It is much, much, MUCH better than learning the tool from expensive books (usually books about Photoshop are expensive).
I am super glad that I purchased the program and looking forward to be a Photoshop pro!!
I am also thinking about to purchase retouching after learning all the tools.
You guys, if you are not too sure about these programs, trust me
you will NOT regret buying, but you will love every lesson you get from this program.
Thank you PHLEARN for amazing lessons!

Hi just would like to know if you can select 100 photos or more and water mark them at the same time .cheers
I just ended the complete course today and for the first time in years, after two PS courses and hundred of online tutorials, I finaly feel I understand PS and that I know how to work with it. Is the best course ever. Aaron explains everything so clearly. I’ve allready recommended it to my friends.
This is an absolutely fabulous series. I can’t believe how much it has expanded my knowledge of Photoshop and retouching.
Throughout the series, you use a brush cursor with concentric circles – it appears that the inner circle is the area of solid color and the outer circle is the extent of the feathering. Where does one get a cursor like that? I have the latest version of Photoshop and I can’t find that or anything similar.
This course has elevated my skills like no other course has ever before. I’ve been collecting tutorials from all over the net, but the way these 3 courses are structured, along with the likeable Aaron and his extreme competent teaching, I have progressed way beyond expectation. I never knew the exact meaning of dodging and burning or masks channels paths and so on. Every tool is explained in detail and will be later applied in some examples.
This is by far the best series of tutorials I’ve ever done and I had a lot of them. So thank you Aaron and PHLEARN team for this amazing product.
I watch Aaron’s tutorials for many years. He is the best Photoshop educator in US so far. His tutorials are simple, funny and of very high quality. All my friends and family know that the best present for me is tutorial from Aaron.
Thank you, Aaron!
Simply wasn’t for me and didn’t work for my learning style. I was hoping for a step-by-step guide where we would learn by doing, starting from a blank slate. Instead it begins with a deep dive into each individual tool showing the dozen different things each tool can do, but not with any goal in mind, just explaining the tool. Then you’re on to another tool, then another. It would be like teaching you to cook by spending 30 minutes on all the different spatulas, then 30 minutes on the whisks, and so on.
I would have preferred a project-based learning system where you work on a simple project which introduces the most basic tools and features. Then gradually you work on bigger and more complicated projects learning tools and procedures as you go. Rather than, for example, 25 minutes looking at every possible variation on the brush tool before I’ve ever really used that tool in a project.
Obviously a lot of people have had success with this teaching, but unfortunately it wasn’t right for me.
One final technical issue I had is that the project files they provide already had the changes made, which made them completely useless for following along with.
Photoshop basic structure and tools explained in clear and professional way, along with tips and to the point examples and all necessary files…after the first hour you feel like you’ve know Aaron for ever, he has this unique talent in teaching that makes you to keep listening and learning. Thank you Aaron and team for putting together these top grade tutorials!
It’s simple, this tutorial is the best for beginner trying Photoshop for the first time. Even for someone who followed Phlearn with it’s free tutorial, this lesson make you a real pro with Photoshop.
You can’t get anywhere else a lesson with that amount of information in a fun way. Totally worth is price tag.
I’m an experienced amateur photographer and I’m very familiar with the Photoshop software. 101 was for me was a review of what I already knew. 101tutorials are extremely useful for someone new to Photoshop. I was not sorry for purchasing the 101 tutorials combined with 102 and 103 since it is a way for me to support PHlearn and payback for the rich learning I received form the free tutorials. As for 102 and 103 I’m very happy with the purchase. I’ve learned everything someone needs to know about Photoshop tools, filters, workflow, etc. to master retouching my photos. Many thanks to Aaron and PHlearn team for excellent teaching material.
I had the original 101 and 102. Really glad I purchased the upgraded workshops. As always Aaron is clear with his instruction and makes photoshop far more accessible. Sure Aaron is very generous with lots of free tutorials and always there is a concept to reinforce or something new to learn – but the pro tutorials are well worth the investment. They are definitely the icing on the cake to the free tutorials. Am very thankful that a work colleague pointed me in the direction of Aaron and PHLEARN and I have paid it forward sharing my photoshop skills secret recommending PHLEARN to friends.
I have been a subscriber to Phlearn’s YouTube channel for over a year and have learned a lot from the weekly tutorials. The 101-301 course takes away the “hit or miss” approach to learning Photoshop and Aaron does a great job logically laying out and explaining, in detail, all of the features of Photoshop.
I am about 2/3 through the course, and this is, without a doubt, the best money I have spent on Photoshop education. I would definitely recommend it to anybody wanting to learn Photoshop.
Thanks for an excellent course!
101-301 is in my view the most comprehensive and user friendly Photoshop training available. Sure, there are lots of videos online that can show how to create an amazing one off effect, but this will leave big gaps in your understanding of the software. I’ve been using Photoshop for over 10 years, but whether it’s a 101 or an advanced tutorial, I always pick up something new from Aaron, or a faster method or shortcut that I’d forgotten along the way. Top job Phlearn! As someone who works mainly in TV & Video, I genuinely appreciate the highest standards you employ in your training vids. Thanks for enabling me to ‘raise my game’ in Photoshop.
aaron is gr8!
I would describe myself as a novice to Photoshop — only popping in occasionally to change a photo to black and white or to create a rough composite. I decided to do something about that recently. I started with library books and free online tutorials. That was alright, but I recognized that I needed to build a solid foundation. Topics like ‘layer masks’ and ‘adjustment layers’ are really confusing to read about or are so fundamental that they’re just glazed over on advanced level online tutorials. I bought the series and spent the past three weeks completing the lessons, a week on each level. Aaron, you did a great job of making it interesting, thorough and focusing on application. I looked forward each week to the practice sessions at the end of each level! I needed a break from the ‘this does this and that does that’, which can be tedious but necessary. I feel like I now have a good, basic knowledge of Photoshop and approach the online tutorials so much differently than before! 😀 Thank you!
This is a well done professional quality tutorial aimed at someone new to Photoshop that wants to work with photographic images. The course comes with a table of contents that lists which lists what chapter and what minute a topic is covered. This makes it easy to go back and review if needed. All the example images are included as well. PS 101 starts the series off by going over the tools and menu options. This can be tedious if you have any familiarity with Photoshop. For someone just starting though, this is a mandatory process that lays the groundwork for everything else. For those with some experience you can always skip to the exercises in the last chapter and review those area’s that you are weak in. I stuck with it and feel like I benefited because I did. PS 102 and 103 take you deeper into the tools and help you develop a process or workflow to work on an image. Compared to competing products like Lynda.com I think Aaron does a better job in my opinion. He offers more bang for the buck just because I get to keep the content. I feel like the course left me in a great position to take an image from raw all the way to a finished product.
Great tutorial by Aaron, highly recommended for starters like me. At first I am hesitant to purchase this package, but after I have finished the 101 episode I am very amazed with the tutorial, the simplicity & complete details. Its worth every bucks. Thanks Aaron 🙂
As a newcomer to Photoshop, I learned so much from these tutorials!! Thank you and keep up the good work.
After viewing the modules, I realized how comprehensive and informative learning experience.
I took Imaging with Photoshop at Orange Coast College but this is a simple, easy to learn course I highly recommend for amateurs and professional photographer, so much to learn.
I am very pleased to have purchased it.
It is the best Photoshop training. I am fully satisfied and happy. It id a great choice for everybody who need to use Photoshop. The best quality for good price.
Great tool for learning PS CC 2015. Aaron is most informative and enlightening and charming! Wonderful tutorials easy to follow and I am learning so much. Aaron Nace Thank You for putting these Tutorials together. I am sure you had many helpers Thank You to All of them.
Anyone who knows Phlearn can imagine how good these tutorials can be. I purchased it with little doubts it would be good and it certainly hasn’t let me down. Just as a suggestion I would have liked some written documentation extracting the esentials of the lessons (which I am doing myself) and don’t know why they haven’t translated it yet (although I don’t need it I know many people in Spain who can’t understad english and can’t find a way to learn PS in a decent way).
If you are starting a college course in photography, this is one PHLearn course you really need to do. If you are new to photography and Photoshop this is the one course you need to do.
Every tool, every menu, actions AND the reasons why and what they do gives you a kick start. Best money I have spent in a long time. Indeed I purchased the Ultimate Guide to Retouching and the Composite Course as a result.
Learning the best way.
I’m very glad and happy to be here giving my second review about the Phlearn Photoshop 101-301,
My day-to-day is getting better with this PRO Tutorial. It’s really helpful!
Of course I will do recommendations to everyone because this one will gives you amplitude to knowledge.
Soon I’ll acquire more Phlearn PRO Tutorials.
Thanks all Phlearn Staff,
I appreciate it!
Perfect Videos! Thank you for your work, Aaron!
Amazing tutorial! Everything you need to know to become a Photoshop pro.
Well structured with an amazing quality. Brilliant stuff. Keep up the good work!
Great tutorials. My skill level went up fast. Editing photos takes me much less time then before and the result is bettter.
I have found that the way Aaron teaches, really gets the point across. This series Photoshop 101 – 301 Is not only for the beginner, but gives the more advanced photo-shopper a refresher course in the tools and shows a different side to using photoshop.
By having the video playing on the TV, and following along on the computer has enhanced my knowledge of Photoshop, and Lightroom.
This method that Aaron show using the non-destructive method of layers (you can always delete and start again), has helped to produce better results for me.
Family and friends are coming to me to try and fix some of their photos. I am still working with a mouse but a tablet is not far away. By using the these tools as found and described and explained by Aaron, Learning Photoshop is now a real joy.
I have now completed all of the Photoshop 101 – 301 tutorial and have watched the video a few times. This is useful when I don’t understand a process and want a refresher on a particular tool or its settings.
Please do not hesitate to get this Pro tutorial.
I give this tutorial 5 stars and wish I could give a higher rating.
I am new to Photoshop and these training video’s are awesome! I love that each tool is not just explained, but followed up with useful examples.
Great material from still one of the best Photoshop tutors around. Thorough yet understandable. Very well set up and organized. Could do with the support of some written additions (pdf) on some of the subjects and issues (brushes and brush-presets for one). Reason why sometimes the additional information of specific pdf might be helpful is Aarons natural flow and fluency so to speak of what for others is not so easy to grasp a good understanding of. This should not be considered as criticism but as constructive support for a well designed and produced product.
I am a 46 yrs old travel photographer from Germany, which takes his passion for photography since 5 years very seriously.
I avoided using PS all this time because LR and Co. seemed to be more than adequate post-processing tools for me
… and because I thought spending time to get familiar with PS would not pay out for me.
Well, after watching 101-301, I feel far more confident and not (that) overwhelmed by the power of PS anymore and meanwhile I even realized how PS can help me to express my vision more easily.
The production quality of the series is top notch and I really like the teaching style of Aaron.
The material is presented in a very moderate speed and I highly recommend to be patient and not to rush through the lessons.
… take your time and repeat Aaron’s lessons/step by yourself, which will pay out later while dealing with the more advanced topics.
Great value for your money!
Photoshop 101-301 is really fantastic. The only thing I found difficult was when Aaron was making layer mask and performing other edits, he did them so fast that being a newbie I had to review again and again. But aside from that the course was very comprehensive and educational. He makes learning Photoshop enjoyable.
Been following the progress of Phlearn tutorials for a few years, the series is by far the best and most comprehensive Photoshop tutorials I’ve seen. A must for beginners and intermediate users alike. Aaron’s unique style of presenting makes you want to sit “just one more lesson”… Can not recommend this enough!
Yes, I am very grateful to Aaron, he is awesome. I’m seeing how Aaron makes photoshop work easy, I just love the way he teaches photoshop, simple and clear
It worth every cent. I can strongly recommend the course to anyone who likes to work with Photoshop.
Thank you Aaron and the Plearn team !!!
I have been using PHLearn’s latest release for about a month. It has given me a new understanding of Photoshop in that it helped take away my confusion with working with masks and other essential features of Photoshop. My work has become so much less complicated and more pleasurable because of 101-300. Thank you for the help it gives me.
This is one of the most thought out and detailed tutorials I have seen. I have learned an extreme amount of information in really a short time. 21.5 hours of packed information and loved every minute of it. Phlearn killed it again! Good job and thanks for doing what you guys do.
High quality of this course. It takes long but that’s the only way.
So far, I’ve only completed 101 even though I bought the whole set and so far the content is awesome. It gives you all the tools you need to correct images, edit your photos, and get creative. For me at least, 101 has been eye opening and has made me jump ahead of many people editing today. And again, that’s only 101. Can’t wait to start on 201 and 301. Tip: View all the videos first, take notes, and go back and follow along. Best way to learn. Also, redo the final exercise for each section using your own photos, this makes it even more fun.
The Photoshop 101-301 course is fantastic!!! You can really become an advanced Photoshop user after studying with this incredible, well organized,
explained and intuitive material, you learn every single tool on the software and much more, this is the most complete course that you can find on the internet, if you wanna learn photoshop more than a ordinary user so buy this tutorial right now, you going to learn more than you imagine, it’s AMAZING!!!
WOW! Talk about learning to swim by being thrown into the deep end! I’ve been working at learning PS for awhile now, but this course puts things together from the start. I like working with a single image during a tutorial. Gratefully, I have a dual monitor setup, so I can keep “rewinding” or pausing while I catch up to Aaron’s “speed teaching” style. Today I’ll finish 101-05. These lessons are packed with info and each one bears watching –and practicing– more than once. Compared to the earlier PS course –well, there’s no comparison! It is both a learning course and a resource reference. I’m very glad I spring for the new course!
I fount out about PHlearn just yesterday on youtube, and here I am today, buying the 101-301 course, which talks a lot about the quality of how you do teach us photoshoping. I’m in love with Aaron (not literarily), how he explains everything and the fact of not being boring. Thanks so much for what you do and how you do it :))
Great course! I am 100% satisfied!
My compliments to the PHLEARN Team for a first class professional training series in the fundamentals and not-so-fundamentals of Photoshop. The Video Tutorials are outstanding in quality and content. Keyboard Shortcuts are often annotated on screen. Each sub-series has a detailed printable Table of Contents referenced to a specific video and time. Very high quality images accompany each video and include JPEG, DNG, and Layered TIF formats. Exercises are included wherein you can follow along taking images from Camera Raw to finished Photoshop documents.
I highly recommend the complete series for those new to Photoshop or anyone not proficient in the understanding and use of specific tools , menu items, adjustment layers. This series with its Table of Contents can serve as a perfect reference for many years to come.
This training series is a tour-de-force. The material is important to know and easy but not necessarily fun to learn. Keep motivated, take frequent breaks, work along with Aaron, and explore on your own. I recommend investment in your choice of the other PHLEARN Pro Tutorials to take your Photoshop skills to the next level (And No – I am not being paid)
My experience level with PS is somewhere between Intermediate and Advanced. Like a lot of us, I piecemealed my knowledge through sundry videos and trial and error. I’m on lesson 6 of 101 and am honestly very surprised at how much I’ve learned already. Just having an overview of every little piece of PS is invaluable. Aaron, as always, is approachable and makes understanding this daunting program PHun! 😉 From the bottom of my heart I want to thank Aaron and the rest of the PHLEARN team for doing what you do, it’s more valuable than you could ever know.
I discovered the phlearn family a year ago and never thought I could go this far… Photoshop is, nowadays, my favourite computer tool and the one that lets me express myself 100% as I want. And everything thanks to those simple-perfectly explained youtube videos that you upload guys… But now, with this bundle OH MAN I’m mastering Photoshop, and loving it among every episode of 101-301. I would buy this pro bundle twice if it was necesary.
Been following Aaron’s free tutorials for about a year now, I just love the way he teaches photoshop, simple, clear and very important, with a sense of humor.
Now with this package it’s like having a private photoshop course at home with my favorite teacher. And even beter, I can pause and rewind when needed.
I’m halfway 101 and not regretting one moment, worth every penny. I can truly recommend it to every one who works with photoshop!
Thank you Aaron Nace and the Plearn team, hope you keep on doing what you’re doing
Aaron Nace is one of those few people who can really grab your attention and keep it throughout the entire video. He’s explains everything clearly and directly and I found myself easily able to retrace his steps with a little bit of practice. Great tutorials and well worth the cost. I would definitely recommend it to friends.
It was my first payout of many others that will come, I ‘m pretty sure.
I’ve started with some expectations and it’s above of what imagined.
By now I’m at the 101, and really wanted to share my contentment.
Every cent that you spend will be recompensed.
Thank you Aaron Nace and Phlearn Staff, I appreciate
I already had the original 101 and 201 so was reluctant to go for the entire new package. However, 101 and 201 bears no relation to the earlier versions other then they are about Photoshop.
The history; I started with the original 101 and 201 and then got a few pro tutorials to work through. But again and again I was getting lost and realised I needed a better understanding of photoshop first. So I started to check out various books but soon realised that nothing works as well as someone holding your hand, doing it all for you so you can watch and then you do it yourself.
So I decided to buy this. Good move. I have only completed in the two days, the first three units of 101. But I feel I totally understand what I have learned, and surprised myself when I went through the layers one again, how quick I was at it, plus I knew why I was doing what I was doing. The original package only showed the surface, what to do, this package goes much deeper and shows you why you would want to do it and shows all the options that are there.
I plan to take this slowly, completing one part a day, and then re-doing that part if not totally sure. Layers was one such part, they were always beyond my understanding, now I feel fairly confident about using them.
So on the strength of the first three units, and having no reason to think the rest won’t be up to the same standard then yes I think this package is a must have.
Should I review this after having only done the first three units? Well, like me you might be thinking should I or shouldn’t? There are not many reviews so you are really on your own, so I decided my experience might help people decide. Raymond’s review is excellent, but two voices are better then one.
If, like me, you have been using photoshop for a little while, you will be surprised at how much more there is. If you are a complete beginner then I cannot imagine anything better then this. You can buy books but I have tried that and even Martin Evening’s bible on photoshop left me scatching my head and reselling it within weeks. Something like photoshop has to be shown, not read about.
Price wise? Well ask if you already own the previous original verison, you will get a discount, but at £129 for the entire package, you could easily spend that on three books on photoshop and still not pick it up as fast as this. This is a hands on walk through. It’s working for me beyond my expectations.
The bottom line. You might want to make money from your photography and photoshop takes you so beyond what Lightroom can do, and hence boost your sales income. So it’s not so much can you afford this, it’s more can you afford not to?
Phlearn Photoshop 101,
1. Simplicity of course materials to follow and learn.
Extremely simple to follow, indepth detail into the aspects covered from tools and layers followed by menus, in plane english with easy to understand language.
2. Education value of the content.
As someone new to photoshop some of the information i found a little boring BUT only due to the fact that i want to just get stuck into creating images. I did rush ahead and found that without the foundations of what 101 offers the later stages are quite hard to get your head around its worth watching from start to finish.
3. Whether you would recommend it to others.
If someone is starting from scratch with PS and has no knowledge at all i would most defiantly recommence this series.
Phlearn Photoshop 102,
Found this section of the series easy to understand but areas difficult to follow just down to trying to copy what was going on, with the ability to pause rewind and play again it came together in the end. The videos where extremely easy to follow in every step of the process with the explanation not being to fast, allowing easy application of what was being demonstrated.
Understanding the processes of retouching, cutting out your subject in the most effective way and background creation is completely gold dust. Its exactly what i was looking for, understanding about what you need to get images to work together and how to bring the overall look and feel of an image together by colour balancing. I never knew about how powerful the type section of PS was, the ideas and concepts i gained from this area of 201 was unreal.
3. Whether you would recommend it to others
Would recommend this to people that have been using PS for some time guaranteed to teach you something.
Phlearn Photoshop 301,
Now this section of of the tutorial took some watching, i found the course simple to understand but hard to execute in certain areas purely down to the fact that i am personally still trying to understanding elements of PS. The areas covered in this section really did allow me to understand that the possibilities are endless when wanting to create the ultimate image!
This section of the tutorial cements the two previously sections, the warping and scaling was mind blowing and will be using this in most of images for sure, puppet warping is such a powerful tool! Have watched several videos on the pen tool and paths, this section is flawless in this tutorial really explains the importance and how best to use in such a simple manner. There was no section in the 301 series that i would suggest needs to be dropped out, the content mind-blowing brilliant.
The final section of the series allows are a few walk through sections allowing you to bring together your understanding and apply it to a real situation.
I already have! There is such a massive value in this, well done.
Only on lesson 2 for 101 and I am just amazed by the quality and content of these videos. I am so glad that I didn’t buy a book on how to learn photoshop. This is so much better! Thanks for all your hard work guys, the tutorials are amazing. Keep it up!
