Compositing
You will learn every detail necessary to go from beginning to end in this special compositing and lighting tutorial!
Photo Shoot
The photo shoot for this image was amazing! We built the set just days before the shoot, and worked out all the lighting the night before. We knew our main challenges were going to be making multiple copies of the same person, and keeping the lighting consistent for all of them. We also had to make a small blue glowing light, which required a little bit of DIY rigging!
One of the big reasons this shoot was made great is that everyone really got into character, and people were acting more than modeling. This helps the image look as though it is really happening in some place, rather than a staged photo shoot.

Dodging and Burning
Getting everything together in a composite is important, but it will not add style to the image – that is where dodging and burning comes into play. You will learn how we alter the highlights and shadows on this image to create extra detail and draw attention to certain areas.
A great example of this technique in action is on the boy’s ribcage.

Creating Light Rays
You will learn how to very quickly create light rays from scratch that will interact with your subjects and make it look like there really is light coming into your image through fog.

Creating a Soul
For this image, we start off with a shape made in Cinema 4d, and build it up to what you see here in Photoshop. The image and the custom brushes are both included in the tutorial, so you can follow along when making your own special effects.
You will learn how to make the light from this soul actually look like it is casting light onto the models!

Changing Hands
The subjects all need to interact with each other in a good composite to make the image come to life. This can be tricky sometimes, especially when you are working with multiple versions of each person. Because it is impossible to have them actually interacting, we fake it in Photoshop.
We cover great techniques for making it look like the photos are seamless, as well as getting rid of extra details, like the boy’s left over hand!

Coloring Your Image
At the end of this tutorial, you will learn great techniques to add color and interest into your image!
