Tutorial Description
The concept of Dodging and Burning is relatively simple. Make one part of the image lighter and one part of the image darker. You can choose to make Highlights lighter or darker and vice versa with shadows.
A High Pass Filter will allow you to separate the highlights and Shadows from mid tones. Using a blending layer like “Soft Light” you can then blend the layer seamlessly with the original image. The result is that your Highlights will be lighter and your Shadows will be darker. You can then decide where to make this effect visible using a Layer Mask.
The result is that you can Dodge and Burn your image very quickly and easily!
