Before & After

Phlearn PRO Pinup Cola Before After

Texture or None

Not all pinup photos are perfect with a texture, that is why we give you the option to include one or not. This tutorial goes through everything you need to make a pinup photo amazing. Then we add a texture to the image making it really stand out as a piece of art.

Phlearn PRO Pinup Cola Before After Texture

Included Textures

Included in this PRO Photoshop Tutorial are 5 high quality textures that may be used on any of your images to create amazing effects. Mix and match them for extra combinations of textures.

Keeping it Classic

Phlearn PRO Photoshop Tutorial Pinup Cola

Stylized Dress

We cover techniques on how to accurately cut out a dress from the background, even if it contains difficult areas like fringes. You will also learn how to match highlight color to the background, making it look as though it was painted on to a blank piece of paper.

Phlearn PRO Photoshop Tutorial Pinup Cola

A Perfect Pinup Face

Learn to retouch a face to perfection in this tutorial while adding style. A bit of texture has been added to this photo, but you can keep your image perfectly clean. We even match the lipstick to the CocaCola bottles.

Phlearn PRO Photoshop Tutorial Pinup Cola

Pinup Hair

Original pinups were paintings which means the level of detail was quite a bit different than a photo. Hair should be styled and more of a shape than a highly detailed image. In this tutorial we cover how to make hair look like it was literally painted on, and add style at the same time.

Phlearn PRO Photoshop Tutorial Pinup Cola

Smooth Legs

All of the skin in this image has been completely transformed from its original state. After this tutorial you will be able to take any pair of legs and make them look amazing! We apply a special dodge and burn technique to really bring out the details and make them look smooth yet sharp.

Phlearn PRO Photoshop Tutorial Pinup Cola

Hot Shoes

We cover some amazing techniques to bring out the detail in the shoes and at the same time making them look stylized like a painting.

Two part? So if we buy one, do we have to come back and buy the second later?

“Join us for this advanced two part tutorial taking our image from camera to pinup!”

  • Keith Stenhouse

No, it is just that this tutorial is split into two one-hour long videos. They take you from the out of camera file to the final image.

    ah, cool, thanks!

That’s right, thanks for responding Keith

I gave it a shot! Thanks for this tutorial I’ve had a lot of people ask me lately to shoot pinup stuff and I just couldn’t figure out how to edit them correctly! This came at an awesome time! I appreciate Phlearn more than you know!

  • Robert Huber

This is excellent. I walked through the tutorial, and can’t wait to try shooting something similar on my own. One question I’m just curious about though… was there was there a deliberate reason from a planning perspective for shooting against the colored seamless background instead of something like white or gray?

  • http://twitter.com/_natashaleigh Natasha Leigh

Just bought this and can’t wait to set up my own shoot. Love the pinup style but was never sure how to approach it in a way that was tasteful and classy. Thanks guys! x

This is the phirst time I purchased a PRO, as I’m a quite phresh phollower and I have to say that it was money well spent :) I did a pinup shoot with my girlphriend some time ago (http://jacekwphoto.blogspot.com/2012/09/czerwony-pin-up.html – content in Polish, but photos are in a universal language :) ) and I was struggling with a painterly pheel in post so I did a regular processing on them… But now when a have a minute or two(hundred) I will give it a try and make it more old school looking :) phanks!

is this only meant for the newest version of Photoshop?

  • Phlearn. com

These techniques should work with most versions of Photoshop, for sure everything CS4 and newer

  • davechud

Still working my way through the 2nd half of this Phlearn Pro, and liking it (thank you.) Constructive request though, you really pinned the idea that the detailed selection was absolutely key, but when the first method didn’t work great, you shifted very quickly to a different technique and mostly glossed over what/why/how you made the improved selection. Seems like a very strong method for getting a great selection, so any chance you can run the color range + masking details/concepts a little more slowly?

This was a great tutorial! I’ve always wanted to do a pinup shoot but had no idea how to even start with editing it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jay.hermosa Jason Hermosa

I’m assuming they shot it on a colored background to contrast it from the white dress.

  • Michael Gamilla

Just watched it and loved it. cant wait to apply to my own. thanks Aaron and Phlearn Staff!

More I have only recently come to learn about Phlearn and Aaron Nase and boy, has this combo changed my world!

Having come from a CGI/3D animation background, I've long used Photoshop but in a very different way to how PS is used in photo manipulation and photography. The thing about Photoshop is that it can be used in so many different applications across multiple industries. These Phlearn tutorials are just so incredibly helpful even to a seasoned PS user such as myself.

I take my hat off to Aaron for being so generous with sharing his vast knowledge and experience with the software. I have never come across any other teacher who has been so thorough and in-depth with instruction. The tutorials are low-cost and Aaron has been so kind to offer this exceptional education to the general public.

If you have always dreamed about being able to perform magic with your photos, then you will not be disappointed with what Phlearn has to offer!

More I have been a photographer for almost 12 years, currently in grad school and have yet to encounter tutorials that blow my mind like Phlearn's. I am addicted to downloading tutorials, even if it's material I have learned at the academy.

Aaron's easy to follow videos are perfect for serious artist. I am currently a finalist in Canon Project imagination because of the material I have learned on this site.

More Phlearn helped further my technical skills in camera and on the computer because the art and design school I went to did not have the best photography program. Thankfully, I did not choose to go into photography there, but minored in it. As a Communication Designer with a passion for photography, Phlearn was the photography school I had been searching for. Conceptual, technical, 24/7, and most of all, taught by a young and passionate professional in the industry who knows his craft.

Phlearn, you are doing something great and I believe you are changing lives because you help guide people who lack artistic vision to experts who have been in the industry for years.

Proud to be part of the Phamily!

More People generally dont like being wrong, even worse we dont like admitting we were wrong.

I had been watching Phlearn for about a month or so before I bought my first Pro Tutorial. I had learned and grown so much just from the free daily shows I felt like I was getting way to much for free so I decided i wanted to support Aaron by buying a tutorial. So i picked one that looked interesting, thinking that for the price i would maybe learn a few extra tricks that didn't happen to make it in the daily show (or had been done in the archives). I was wrong. Very wrong and I will happily admit it!

I still use what i learned in that first tutorial in a large portion of my images along with all the other tips and techniques I've learned in all the other tutorials I've purchased since. In fact, there isn't an image I've made recently that hasn't had a touch or more of Phlearn influence and i couldn't be more grateful. Phlearn continues to help me get my images to where I want them to be, and also shows me where I've never thought of taking them.

I really can't express how valuable these Pro Tutorials are, at any price!

More PHLEARN is my go to place. I search endlessly trying to find information to help me edit my images and there are few willing to help. I give freely any knowledge I may have to anyone who asks, which is why I am a faithful patron of PHLEARN.

Thank you Aaron and all who assist you for the willingness to share so that the photographic community can grow. I have learned a great deal and that has made such a difference in my work which my customers are the beneficiaries. I have gained confidence knowing that my images are the best they can be from my perspective. Keep it up. I thing there is one or two more things for me to learn! :-)

More I've been a Photoshop nerd since version 3, and I can tell you that I've had a love/hate relationship with PS since the very beginning. As powerful as it is, PS is also one if the most frustrating and difficult to learn pieces of software I have ever encountered. I used to think of myself as somewhat of a PS "guru", that is until I happened upon the Phlearn website. It was immediately obvious that despite his somewhat cavalier and funny exterior, Aaron was a guy who knew the in's and out's of PS like know one I had seen before.

After viewing countless free tutorials (hey, I'm cheap) I finally broke down and purchased several of the Pro Tutorials and let me tell you that I can unabashedly recommend these tutorials to anyone at any skill level. Anyone who wants to get the most out of PS and increase their productivity and creativity. I have rarely seen a person with a gift and passion for teaching like Aaron and I can honestly say that I have learned and applied something from almost every tutorial I have viewed: Something that cannot be said about every tutorial site I have used and there have been many!!

Thanks Phlearn, I'm better at what I love to do because of you guys!

More Watching the daily free Episodes will give a great tips of a lot of technique, but u won't able to get the full picture and Phlean Pro is your complete tutorial for your photography retouching world. I love phlearn pro, it trains me from a completely novice to a level that i can freely express my idea in my picture.

I have to say it is really the best on line tutorial ever you can found. Do get the pro now!

More Phlearn's free courses trump most of the paid options that are out there and the PRO ones absolutely destroy them. Phlearn is the only place where I've seen practical solutions and examples to the problems that photographers face on a daily basis.

Aaron's presentation of both photography and Photoshop techniques is clear, concise and enjoyable. The value you get from the texture packs and PRO courses is fantastic and they immediately take your finished products to a whole new level.

I love my weekly dose of Phlearn and look forward to the ambitious projects in upcoming PRO tutorials. Keep up the great work Aaron!

More I've just joined your great Phlearn community... and just bought my first Phlearn Pro tutorial too... (The Last Athlete).

It was really great... In my learning experience, tutorials often goes up to 50 or 60% of the professional level you want to achieve (tech stuff, criteria, lightining, etc) ... the other percentage is totally up to you in your experience and perseverance in your work.... but it always seems to be certain PRO knowlege that is really hard to deduce... and it would take a large amount of hours (or days) to get there.

Although you always have to do your homework, this tutorials really give you that... specialized techinques and very practical ways to solve complex situations, and also... very important... they also train your eye and your brain to get a really good criteria to know what to look for in your images.

Thanks for your great work.

More I met Aaron at B&H in NYC for a free lesson on retouching a portrait and I was completely blown away by his skills, his style and -of course- enthusiasm! Then I follow the guy on twitter and he announces that he's launching "something" called Phlearn! I give it a try and I became addicted to "phlearn" something new almost every day. Then, he launched the first Phlearn PRO and I became addicted once again. Nothing is left out, he tells you EVERYTHING he knows while he's doing it! You see him doing the stuff step by step, explaining it to you and then you do it and magic happens!! I actually keep notes with the minutes and seconds of the videos of stuff I like to keep for future references (like how to apply some make up or how to put light on a fairy's wings) :D

Phlearn PRO tutorials are phenomenal. Almost all I know in photoshop is thanks to those tutorials. I was completely lost before this, I had some skills but without direction and since Phlearn I've been able to apply Aaron's techniques to my own style and I'm more than satisfied with the results.

I gotta warn you, you'll get used to Aaron's energy and style and it's going to be hard for you to go back other tutorials from another artist.

One way to figure out the lighting in a photo besides looking at the direction of the shadows, is to look into the eyes and particularly the catch lights in the eyes can help you figure out the type of light used by its shape in the eye as well as the directions it was lit
