Unlock The Secrets To The Lens Flare in Photoshop

Secrets of Lens Flare.

When properly used, the Lens Flare filter in Photoshop can add a nice effect to backlit photos. One issue people have with the Lens Flare filter is that you can’t apply it to a blank layer. That means that you are not able to adjust the lens flare after it has been applied.

In this episode we show you how to unlock the secrets to the lens flare in photoshop, getting around the limitation of the filter.

Here are some great Lens Flare videos located at Phlearn.

Really Cool tutorial! Do you think you can make a tutorial on how to make my pictures look a little like Dave hill? I mean, I want to know how does he get his pictures look like the ones in the adventure series.. I would love to know the photoshop part of course!

A theme for a Phlearn pro tutorial I would love for you guys to do is… “.gif animation”.

Although the tutorials you guys have already put out cover a lot of basic knowledge; i think there are tons of possibilities for phlearn to take this topic more in depth.

How about a 50% grey layer, circular selection, lens flare filter and vivid color blending mode? Cicular selection to restrict the lens flare and make it easy to transform it and get rid of those ugly amd faky flare rings.

I feel like once I’ve shot an image, done basic editing, etc. I don’t know what more to do with it. And I’ll generally be happy with the way it looks but won’t know how to make it.. BETTER. Example attached.

If we analyze this picture, the lens flare does not match with the enviroment, if you look at the face, is a little bit weird and no sense. but the fact that you used properly the lens and blend options its ok. here is an example that i want to explain you 🙂

Aaron I just have to say you & everyone involved in the making Phlearn happen are AWESOME! Since I’ve started watching your very fun & knowledgeable videos, my photography & Photoshop skills have very noticeably increased in quality. You make learning a VERY tedious process fun & entertaining! I still have a lot to learn but it is getting there. Here are a Before & After of a photo I took of a church. The moon & fog I took from 2 other photos of mine. Thank You for all that you do!!

I had learned to do this in 3DSMax texturing… only there we had to use a 50% grey as a base for some reason I cannot now recall. Very cool. Before and after.
