DESCRIPTION

Turn your snowy outdoor photos and videos into winter wonderlands with our Snowy color grading LUTs.

All five keep true blacks, warm the midtones and shift greens toward yellow: Harvest White is the brightest and warmest and mutes blue skies, Newport White darkens the midtones and adds saturation, Rocky White makes reds and yellows richer, and Gobi White is gentler. After you apply one, lower the layer opacity in Photoshop or the LUT intensity in your video app if the look is too strong.

One zip holds the 5 LUTs as .CUBE files for Photoshop’s Color Lookup, the same 5 in .3DL, .CSP, .CUBE and .ICC for video and other apps, plus 4 sample images to practice on and the PDF install guide.

Snowy LUTs · 5 Looks

Warm, Clean Tones for Snowy Scenes

Five LUTs that warm the midtones and keep snow bright and clean, from soft fog to crisp, saturated color. Use them on photos and video in Photoshop, Premiere, Final Cut and DaVinci Resolve.

Gobi White

Gobi White warms a cold, green-gray forest into soft taupe and brown and turns the fog into a gentle, warmer mist. The black hat stays deep and her hair keeps its golden tone. It is the softest look in this pack, with contrast down by about a tenth.

Orange in the Midtones

An orange tint runs through the darker and middle tones, strongest in the mids, which is what pulls gray fog and trees toward brown. Black and white stay neutral, so the hat keeps its depth, and middle gray settles just below 50 percent.

Light Tones Eased Down

The lighter tones drop a little, from 75 to 72 percent, so bright mist turns soft rather than glaring. Blues lose about 15 percent of their saturation, while oranges gain a little. Skin picks up some warmth and color.

Best on: foggy and misty winter scenes, quiet portraits from behind, and photos with a lot of gray.

Included – PHLEARN Sedona WhiteOriginal

Sedona White

Sedona White brightens the snow and gives the scene a hint of warmth, so it feels sunny rather than gray. The red jacket and the dog’s sweater stay bold, and the bare trees keep their detail. The highlights stay neutral, so the snow does not turn yellow.

Whites Pushed to Pure White

The brightest tones are lifted toward full white, with 90 percent gray rising to 93, while the shadows and midtones dip slightly, which adds a little contrast, makes snow look clean and keeps the dark trees crisp. Middle gray settles at 46 percent.

A Warm Middle

An orange tint sits in the midtones, and reds, oranges and yellows gain around 10 percent saturation, so warm clothing and skin hold their color against the snow. Cool colors barely change, and skin gains about a quarter more color.

Best on: walks with the dog, active winter outings, and bright outfits against snow.

Rocky White

Rocky White takes the blue out of the snow and adds crisp contrast. The falling flakes stand out, his jacket warms to a rich tan-orange, and both faces look warm and healthy against the bright background. It adds more contrast and more color than any other LUT in this pack.

Deeper Shadows, Brighter Lights

The darker tones drop from 25 to 16 percent and middle gray from 50 to 42, while the light tones rise slightly, a contrast boost of about a fifth. An orange tint in the midtones warms everything in between.

Bolder Color

Oranges gain close to 30 percent saturation and reds about a quarter, with yellows and greens gaining less and aquas a little, which makes jackets, hats and scarves read bold against white snow. Skin gains a lot of color, and deeper skin gets noticeably darker.

Best on: couples playing in the snow, snowfall portraits, and winter photos that look too blue.

Included – PHLEARN Newport WhiteOriginal

Newport White

Newport White darkens and warms the scene. The dogs’ black and tan coats get richer, the tree trunks glow a deeper brown, and the snow in the foreground stays bright. It is the darkest look in this pack, yet contrast stays almost unchanged.

Darker Midtones

Middle gray drops from 50 to 39 percent and the light tones to 67 percent, while the brightest whites barely move. That gives the frame weight and keeps snow clean. Pure black stays black, and the shadows deepen, with 25 percent gray falling to 18.

Yellows Lean Orange

Yellows shift strongly toward orange, get much darker and lose some color, and an orange tint runs through the midtones, so skin and fur turn a deeper, warmer tan. Oranges lean toward red, and reds and oranges gain about an eighth more saturation, while greens hold steady.

Best on: family photos outdoors in winter, pets in the snow, and sunlit parks and woods.

Included – PHLEARN Harvest WhiteOriginal

Harvest White

Harvest White brightens the snowy forest and adds a warm, rosy feel to the light. The green jacket gets deeper, the red scarves and mittens stay full and cheerful, and skin keeps its warmth. It is the only LUT in this pack that brightens the midtones.

Brighter Midtones, Warm Cast

Middle gray rises from 50 to 56 percent with a soft red tint, which lifts faces and coats without blowing out the snow. The light tones rise to 79 percent as well, and the brightest whites ease to 98 percent with a faint warm tint.

Darker Greens, Softer Blues

Greens get darker, shift slightly and lose about a fifth of their color, and blues lose about half their saturation while turning lighter and leaning toward aqua, so evergreens and shadowed snow look less cold. Reds and oranges gain a little color.

Best on: kids and families playing in the snow, holiday-season photos, and bright winter woods.

LUT Questions, Answered

What’s included in the Snowy LUTs?

The Snowy LUTs include 5 LUTs: Rocky White, Gobi White, Sedona White, Harvest White and Newport White. Each LUT comes as .CUBE, .3DL, .CSP and .ICC files, so it works in Photoshop, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro and most other editors.

What kind of photos and videos are the Snowy LUTs made for?

They’re made for snowy outdoor photos and videos. Capturing an outdoor winter scene can be tricky, so these LUTs are designed to give it the feel of a fresh, fluffy snowfall, with bright whites and crisp contrast, while keeping skin tones warm.

Which Snowy looks are shown on this page?

All five are shown in the before-and-after examples: Rocky White, which is the featured look, plus Gobi White, Harvest White, Newport White and Sedona White. Slide each example to compare the original with the graded version and pick the white that suits your winter scene.

Are LUTs included in my PHLEARN PRO subscription?

Which programs do the LUTs work in?

Photoshop, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Lightroom Classic and most other photo and video editors. Use the .CUBE file unless your software asks for .3DL, .CSP or .ICC.

How do I use a LUT in Photoshop?

Choose Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Color Lookup, open the 3DLUT File menu in the Properties panel, choose Load 3D LUT and pick a .CUBE file from the Photoshop Quick Install folder. Set the strength with the layer’s Opacity.

How do I install LUTs in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro?

The PDF install guide in your download has a page for each one, and every step for every program is on our How to Install LUTs page.

The LUT looks too strong. What do I do?

Turn it down: lower the layer Opacity in Photoshop, the Intensity slider in Premiere Pro or the Mix slider in Final Cut Pro. In DaVinci Resolve, reduce Key Output Gain for that node.

Should I correct my photo before adding a LUT?

Yes. Set exposure and white balance first, then add the LUT on top. A LUT grades color; it does not correct it.

My LUTs don’t show up in DaVinci Resolve.

Skipping Update Lists is the usual reason. Open Project Settings > Color Management, click Update Lists, then Save.

Do you offer refunds?

Because these are downloadable products, all sales are final and we are not able to offer refunds.
