Sean MundyPhotographerCommon Questions
Are these Lightroom tutorials really free?
Yes. Everything marked with the teal FREE badge is a complete, full-length lesson — including the entire 30 Days of Lightroom series and Intro to Lightroom Classic. A free account unlocks the sample photos so you can edit along. PRO is a paid membership for the deeper courses and the full presets library.
Do you teach Lightroom or Lightroom Classic?
Most of our tutorials are taught in Lightroom Classic, the desktop, catalog-based version most working photographers use. We also cover Lightroom for desktop and mobile where the tools differ — and since the Develop controls are nearly identical across versions, the editing techniques transfer directly.
I have never opened Lightroom. Where should I start?
Start with Day 1 of 30 Days of Lightroom. It begins with an empty catalog and assumes no experience — one short lesson a day, in the order the skills build.
Do you give me practice photos to edit along with?
Yes. Free tutorials include the sample photos used in the lesson — create a free account to download them. PRO courses add the original RAW files for every single lesson, so you can match the edit exactly.
Are the Lightroom presets included, or do they cost extra?
Every preset pack we make — 60+ packs and counting, plus LUTs — is included with a PHLEARN PRO membership at no extra cost. Want to try first? Grab the free sample pack. Installation takes about two minutes with our guide.
Should I learn Lightroom or Photoshop?
Lightroom is for organizing and editing photos in volume; Photoshop is for pixel-level retouching, compositing, and design. Most photographers use both — Lightroom for 95% of a shoot, Photoshop for the hero images. We teach Photoshop too, and many lessons cover the round-trip between the two.
How long does it take to learn Lightroom?
The basics click in a weekend. Following 30 Days of Lightroom for a month gives you a complete foundation, and the nine-course Learning Path (30+ hours) takes you from beginner to advanced at your own pace.
Do these tutorials work with the Lightroom mobile app?
Most lessons are taught in Lightroom Classic on the desktop, and the editing concepts — exposure, color, masking, presets — carry straight over to the mobile app because it uses the same Develop tools. For the app itself, start with Lightroom Mobile: The Beginner’s Guide, and note that every PHLEARN preset pack installs on both Classic and Mobile.
Which version of Lightroom Classic do I need?
Any current Creative Cloud version of Lightroom Classic will follow along with the core lessons. The newest features we cover — AI masking, Denoise, Lens Blur and Assisted Culling — only exist in recent releases, so keep Lightroom updated through the Creative Cloud app if you want to use those tools.
What is the difference between Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw?
They share the same processing engine and the same sliders. Camera Raw is the version that opens inside Photoshop when you edit a RAW file; Lightroom adds a catalog for organizing, culling and batch editing thousands of photos. Everything you learn in the Develop module works identically in Camera Raw, which is why several of our courses teach both side by side.
