The dead are not really dead ‘cos we DIG ’em up
PROJECT
The head was captured, the clenched mouth was captured separately, cut out and multiplied on the face. The open teeth was illustrated from a stock image and added to the composition. Threshold adjustment was made to the final composition. The title and credit was added to complete the piece “

Here’s Neary
Anthony Curran
This photo is of a colleague I work with who I think looks like Jack Nicholson and so was inspired to use him to star in my horror movie poster which like Nicholson in the Shining has a comedy aspect to the sheer terror of his character but my spin off loses the Shining aspect and has Mike starring as Nicholson. I took photos of black bin bags, white dust on black paper, used the Oil Medium Wet Flow 1 preset brush to create the ‘redrum’ text and a lot of dodge and burn and reduced noise to create the wax look. A broken piece of wood creates the aspect of him peering through a hole in a door. I have tried to intentionally catch the character of Nicholson in Mike and used bought brushes from Aaron Blaise website to add that touch of wispy hair on Mikes forehead. I know it isn’t scary but I think it captures a classic in a modern way using a lookalike. My Facebook name is my sons name (Aeson Edward Curran for privacy reasons)
Dia de los Muertos
Carlos Castro
Fish tank ornament (skull) In a black plexiglass. The texture behind was made with real smoke from a cigarrette inside the skull. In my country Mexico, Dia de los Muertos is one of the most important holidays in the year. We get to party with the dead.
Dia de los Muertos
Chris Knowles
I wanted to capture ‘Day of the dead’ in this poster. I had a very helpful model who was amazing despite having a fan blowing her hair and being chilled quite literally for the experience. If you look closely at her skin you’ll see the goose bumps. Note to self to bring a heater to my next shoot. The calligraphy was fun to produce to. All my own work apart from the hundreds of skulls that was from cgtextures. The model was face painted in photoshop and the roses and flames also added there. The circular patterns and calligraphy were created in Illustrator.
Her Shadow

Mirror
Graeme Garton

Phriller
Igor Karpenko
The goal was to create a horror movie parody poster. DIY “strip” lights for edge lighting of Michael Jackson figurine are made out of cardboard tubes that were used to ship Rosco gels. I cut a 1-inch-wide rectangular hole in the tube, lined the back of the tube with household aluminum foil and mounted the tubes on top of up-facing Speedlights. Cheap costumes and makeup from a Halloween store – this is the first time we tried applying makeup. Took two days to wash it off – glad we didn’t use it on the kids.
Hammer Time
Isham Kharoubi

Jack’o – In Seedy Town
Anthony Curran
Jack’o (full name Jack’o Lantern) lives in a small town called Seedy (as in what you find inside a pumpkin) near a huge farm in North America. Every Halloween he turns into a evil sadistic pumpkin due to a ‘seedy pumpkin fever’ that hit the town in the late 1980’s. He goes on a murder spree from 18.00 – 06.00 every Hallows Eve. Once Halloween is over Jack’o returns to his human form and has no memory of the night before.
