Focus on the Best. Cull with AI.
Learning Lightroom Classic’s new AI-assisted culling feature will significantly speed up your workflow by automatically analyzing key photo quality factors like focus and eye contact. This efficient tool helps you quickly narrow down your best images, allowing you to spend more time editing and less time sorting.
Import with AI
When importing images into Lightroom Classic, use the Assisted Culling feature. The AI quickly analyzes photos, identifying subjects that are in-focus, have high focus, and where eyes are open. You can adjust the strictness of these parameters (for example, extremely sharp focus) using the sliders. Reject unwanted photos like misfires or documents automatically, then manually uncheck any remaining rejects to prevent them from importing. You can view only your selects or rejects using the “View Selects” or “View Rejects” options at the bottom.
Organize & Stack
Once imported, use Assisted Culling in the Library Module to further refine your selection. Utilize the Auto Stack option, typically by Capture Time, to group sequential images automatically. You can manually expand or collapse stacks by clicking the number on the stack or by navigating to Photo > Stacking. To quickly apply selections, use Batch Actions under “Organize Results.” Here, you can automatically apply flags (like “Pick” for selected and “Reject” for rejected) to all images fitting or failing your criteria.
Survey Your Picks
To filter and view your final selections, access the Filter Bar (toggle with the / key). Click on Attribute and filter by the Flag icon to see only your “Picks.” Select a group of images and press N or click the Survey View icon to compare them side-by-side. In Survey View, use Ctrl/Cmd + click on the “X” to remove weaker photos. Once you have your favorite image, assign a star rating (for example, press 5 for five stars). You can then filter the entire library just by that star rating to see your absolute best selects.
