Body Shape and Details
Because this image is backlit, there is really nothing else to look at besides the shape of the subject, that is why it is very important to make it as visually appealing as possible. We go through step-by-step using tools such as Liquify to enhance the curves of the subject. It is easy to get carried away when doing this type of editing, and we go over the proper way to enhance without going overboard.

We also add more curtains to the foreground to give the image a bit more life. When shooting white on white these little details are very important. The final image you see is a composite of 3 different exposures.

Phlearn PRO The Body Photoshop Tutorial
Minor Retouching and Color Selection
You may be wondering why we are talking about color in a black and white image. When converting from full color to black and white the colors in the original image will dictate what the end result will look like. We cover how to use the colors of the original image to define the light values of the black and white, making for an even exposure.
Phlearn PRO The Body Photoshop Tutorial
Photo Shoot Instruction Video Included
In this 10 minute video we take you through the entire photo shoot to explain the lighting setup, posing, working with a model and bringing a concept to life. The Included Lighting Diagram will make it easy for you to follow along and repeat this look.

Time lapse video covers the entire photo shoot from start to finish and we pause the shoot several times to explain what we are doing. Included is a section on posing a model and helping them to look the best they can on camera.

Shaping with Dodge and Burn
When working on a full body nude, there is nothing to hide. That is why we pay special attention to making the lighting interesting and not too revealing. This shot would look much less artistic if it was lit with an on-camera flash! Because the body is so exposed, we want to be sure it looks as good as possible. Shaping the body using Liquify is only part of the process.

In this photoshop tutorial we go over special methods for Dodging and Burning the body to further enhance the shape. It is a great way to draw attention towards a certain part of a body and take away attention from another area. You will learn how to Dodge and Burn in a controlled way that will keep people looking natural and not over-done.

Phlearn PRO The Body Photoshop Tutorial
All About Color
Each of these 4 images is very different, and each requires their own color treatment. For the first image we made it Black and White, but for this image we decided to stick with something closer to the original palette. Using red, yellow and blue is a well know combination of colors that play well off each other. We show you how to take specific colors and bring them into the image in a way that will let you define your highlights and shadows.
Phlearn PRO The Body Photoshop Tutorial
Clean-up, Color and Removal
Often times in a photo there are going to be a lot of elements that will distract you from your subject. There are multiple ways to take care of those elements and we go over each in detail. You can physically remove an element such as a TV See Before and After Above or you can simply call less attention to it using shadow and color.

You can also use color to your advantage by accentuating one part of an image which will make other areas less distracting. We bring out the natural color of the red shoes so they stand out from the background and keep your eye on the subject.

Phlearn PRO The Body Photoshop Tutorial
Photo Shoot Instruction Video Included
For the first time ever we are including video instruction from each of the different photo shoots as well as full Lighting Diagrams. We take you step-by-step going from concept through posing the model to setting up lighting and getting the shot. All camera setings are also displayed in the videos so you can duplicate these shots easily.

In this video we show you how to use a stairway as a Cucoloris to shape the light that hits the subject. We cover shot by shot, changing lighting as the shoot progresses and showing comparisons and explaining why we made the changes.

Exclusive Controlled Dodging and Burning
Dodging and burning is a technique used by most retouchers to draw attention to some areas of an image and take away attention from others. It is a very powerful technique and can dramatically change an image for the better. The only problem is that because it is so powerful it can also make an image much worse if not used properly.

Nothing is going to replace a lot of experience, but our exclusive technique explained in this Photoshop Tutorial will come close. We show you how to expertly dodge and burn an image even if it is your very first time.

Phlearn PRO The Body Photoshop Tutorial
Have Fun with Color
This image is a bit more abstract than the others, and it opens up new possibilites when editing. When working with color in an image (my favorite thing to do), there are no hard rules, but there are guidelines that will keep everything looking good. You can see here that there are reds added to the shadow areas as well as greens to areas such as the hair. Blues have been added to the highlights for an added kick. We show you several different techniques to color your images while still keeping them somewhat realistic.

It is important to note that different images call for different editing techniques, the techniques used on this image may not look good on another that is less abstract.

Phlearn PRO The Body Photoshop Tutorial
So You Want Amazing Highlights?
The highlights that run down the body of our subject really are amazing. They bring attention to form and add a level of abstraction to the image making it look less like a portrait and more like a piece of art.

The included video shows you just what you need to do in order to get great highlights from the camera, then the Photoshop instruction comes in and shows you how to enhance them in a whole new way!

Phlearn PRO The Body Photoshop Tutorial
Photo Shoot Instruction Video Included
In this video (Displayed Above) we cover each aspect of the photo shoot, from setting up the camera and lighting to working with the model and posing. We take you on set to see what everything looks like before shooting and how we build up our lighting to get the final image.

Drawing Attention to Your Subject
When creating images that feature a nude body, obviously the subject’s form is the most important thing about the image. Everything else that does not add to that, distracts from it.

For this image we created a Lighting Diagram (Included in the PRO) that really draws attention to the female form and doesn’t distract by lighting anything else. The end result is stunning and there is no question where you should be looking. We go through a special technique to bring all the details out from the shadows in this image to be sure the background is clean. We remove things like backdrops, c-stands, power cables, bottles, and even bad reflections/highlights.

Phlearn PRO The Body Photoshop Tutorial
Light and Contrast
Most of the lighting for this image was done on set (Included in the Video) and we explain every step. The end goal was to really put a spotlight on our subject. In post production we take that even further and add contrast to really make the image stand out.

These Photoshop Tutorials don’t just teach you the How, but they also cover the Why. That means these concepts are universal and will apply to your images as well, even if you never shoot a nude in a studio.

Phlearn PRO The Body Photoshop Tutorial
Laser Photoshop Hair Removal
Hover over the Before and After Above to see that the original image suffered from a slight hair problem. It is really just a bit of head hair that just happened to be coming out of her armpit. “My what bushy armpits you have” is not exactly what you want people to say when looking at your image.

Getting rid of the hair means having to paint part of her arm from scratch and make it realistic. No worries, we show you how to take care of this sort of thing much easier than you would have thought. We even cover the magical Pen Tool

Phlearn PRO The Body Photoshop Tutorial
Curves, Shape and Shadow
In each one of the Four included Photoshop lessons, we go over using the Liquify Tool. We cover the settings that are best to use and explain why sometimes you want to use a large brush over a soft brush. The end goal of course is to get your subject looking great.

Sometimes when shooting into a light source like we do in this photo you will get some unexpected flare/shadows. Rollover the above Before and After to see a dark shadow near her backside in the before image. This may seem extremely easy to fix, but when you take into account that it is over an area that has light gradation as well as dust speckles caught by light, it gets a bit tougher. We show you an amazing technique for fixing areas like this without destroying detail of the original.

Phlearn PRO The Body Photoshop Tutorial
Photo Shoot Instruction Video Included
In the included video of the photo shoot we discuss the lighting that makes this shot amazing, as well as display the exact Lighting Diagram. We also cover posing the model to make sure that the light we chose accented her body well, and didn’t hide too much. We cover some of the “problem” ares of the shoot and what we wound up changing from the original setup.

We took something that is usually a bad thing (lens flare) and used it to our advantage to create this stylized image.

I feel that “the stairway” could have done with further tweaking. The wall behind her, for example. Bricks don’t slope upwards.

Showing support, and adding this to the collection. Full body skin editing is the hardest thing for me, and is extremely time consuming with the methods I currently use, so hopefully this tutorial will be a better route. Beautiful work as usual.

Thanks Aaron. I got the new download link but it does the same thing. A work around I figured out is if you look at the zip file as a folder in windows explore you can copy the images out but it will not allow for extraction out of the zip.

Just went through the tutorial. Very cool shoot and great information as usual. Your doing a good thing with Phlearn Aaron. Keep it coming! I do have a question for you. On the shoot 1 post video you used a layer mask and then a gradient to selectively brighten the image in several areas. How do you apply multiple gradients to the same layer mask? I have been racking my head trying the command, option and even control key to no avail. Once I do a gradient and I go to add another the previous is removed. I saw you doing it in the tutorial but not sure what command key you need use. Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Juan Prieto

    1) Did you ever get the unzipping issue resolved?
    2) How long is the video? Is that 10 minutes per photo shoot or 10 minutes for all four?
    Thanks!

It does it on Windows partly due to how Aaron zips it up on his Mac and how Paths work between the two Operating Systems. However, having purchased several Phlearn Pro Tutorials myself and getting errors extracting with each one of them, I can tell you that it still works and you still get everything. One folder of images is empty, but another folder is created (I’m on Windows 7) with the images and all videos and such are there. It’s annoying, but I seem to be fine at least. I haven’t tried with this tutorial as I haven’t purchased this one…but I can tell you that they all are fine.

More Phlearn pro tutorials are exactly how I wanted a tutorial to be. Fun, extended, and super informative. I really like the way Aaron teaches, he's is the teacher I always wanted to have but never could find. For years I'm roaming the net for good quality education on photography and Photoshop but I always get lost or bored after a while.

Since I know Phlearn, I always look out for the next episode. I'm hooked! Thanks Aaron for being such an inspiring tutor.

More The quality of tutorials and content that is produced by Phlearn is second to none.

After spending years watching tutorials on YouTube and buying expensive videos, I discovered Phlearn. The average Phlearn tutorial is much longer than any homemade YouTube tutorial. The content of each video is also much more in-depth.

It's unbelievable how many new things you can learn from each video. There's always a couple small things, that you pick up here and there, that you find yourself using all the time. This is in addition to all the extras that are included with the tutorials like brushes and actions.

The price point for videos in perfect, especially because I have paid hundreds and hundreds of dollars for 1-2 hour videos.

I am constantly telling my friends about Phlearn . I am found that both photographers and artists love it equally.

More I'm a working photographer who has been learning Photoshop for at least six years and my long term objective is to get to the level of those that do composite work for big brand names in their ad campaigns. I did manage to get so far by watching hundreds of video tutorials out there in internet land but eventually felt that many in the industry were still protecting the insider’s knowledge. Then came along Phlearn out of the blue breaking the mould in revealing the magician's code of Photoshop advanced techniques via their excellent free and Pro tutorials. They also guide you on all the other stuff you need to know like conceptualizing ideas, cost of doing business, etc. The vast majority would charge for what you get in a lot of Aaron's free tutorials and you have to agree that the Pro tutorials are available at a very modest cost or the price of a few beers when on sale.

More I run the marketing for a ski/snowboard company and this season due to budget cuts I was forced to shoot, edit, composite, and retouch our in store display campaign for 3 of the largest sporting goods chains in North America. I panicked, then scoured the internet for help and stumbled upon Plearn.

I watch a number of the free episodes and was able to handle the pre shoot, shoot, and composite, then purchased the Skin Retouching Tutorial to handle the rest. I can now proudly say my work is displayed in over 600 stores! All thanks to Phlearn. Great instructions and a great community! Go Phlearn!!!

More Shortly after I started photography, I found Flickr. I started looking at loads of photo's from really talented photographers. The ones that really stood out for me, however, were the pieces created by the photographers who were experts at photoshop and incorperated into their work with an expertise that took my breath away on many an occasion.

So, I bought photoshop, installed it and experimented. It was like walking uphill, in knee high mud. I bought books and scoured the internet for the many free tutorials but they the books were too mainstream and the internet stuff too extreme... it took an awful lot of sifting through irrelevant information, to get anywhere I needed to go with my work. I think I was trying to learn for about a year before I found Phlearn. I've learnt so much in the last 6 month that my peers have suggested, on occasion, that I should be training people!

I've invested in most of the Pro tutorials and have learnt so much from them that I am now confident creating pretty much anything my imagination can come up with. The pro turorials are worth every penny (or cent) and the free content, on this site, is pretty invaluable too. Aaron's great teaching style takes all the hard work out of learning photoshop and makes it a real pleasure. I'm proud to be part of the PHamily!

More The first thing i do when i get home from work is to visit the Phlearn website for news. At first i went through all the free episodes but i ran out of news really fast. I took a step further and bought a Phlearn PRO and I think that they are the best tutorial videos I have seen. And I watch a lot of videos.

Aaron is a great teacher with the biggest enthusiasm. Sometimes I think it is his personality that inspires me more than photoshop itself. Exactly the way a teacher is supposed to work.

Thank you Phlearn for your existence. /Emil from Sweden

More People generally dont like being wrong, even worse we dont like admitting we were wrong.

I had been watching Phlearn for about a month or so before I bought my first Pro Tutorial. I had learned and grown so much just from the free daily shows I felt like I was getting way to much for free so I decided i wanted to support Aaron by buying a tutorial. So i picked one that looked interesting, thinking that for the price i would maybe learn a few extra tricks that didn't happen to make it in the daily show (or had been done in the archives). I was wrong. Very wrong and I will happily admit it!

I still use what i learned in that first tutorial in a large portion of my images along with all the other tips and techniques I've learned in all the other tutorials I've purchased since. In fact, there isn't an image I've made recently that hasn't had a touch or more of Phlearn influence and i couldn't be more grateful. Phlearn continues to help me get my images to where I want them to be, and also shows me where I've never thought of taking them.

I really can't express how valuable these Pro Tutorials are, at any price!

More I have been a follower of Aaron's work well before Phlearn ever took shape. I was overjoyed when Phlearn was born. The website had single handedly revolutionised my way of learning photoshop. No more scouring for videos on youtube to learn or to find something interesting. Now I had a website where I could visit and learn something new every day. No re-hashed lessons like many other vloggers create...it was 100% original content.

I was a bit let down when Phlearn decided to expand its content to miscellaneous rehashed articles found around the web and on a thousand other websites/blogs. It was no longer unique and no longer comprised of just original content. Your later decision to remove all that content from the website brought new hope that not all focused incredibly talented startups have to become run of the mill, a dime a dozen websites.

Phlearn Pros are also a great concept. I totally respect the business model and have purchased a few myself. The level of detail that can be found in these tutorials is nothing short of amazing. It's like discovering photoshop anew every time.

Something I would really love to see is one or multiple Phlearn Pro episodes where you use 3d modelling software either to create a concept or better still, to actually create assets for the final image. I have never tried using these kind of programs and having a photographer's introduction to these applications might make more sense to us than delving into video tutorials found on the net which are more targeted to hardcore 3d artists.

Thank you for all that you have done.
