Frame Your Vision

Welcome to Day 7 of 30 Days of Lightroom! Today, we’ll master essential tools for refining your image composition: cropping, straightening, and perspective correction. We’ll also explore how to use Photoshop’s AI capabilities to expand your crops for creative flexibility.

Basic Image Setup

1. Begin by downloading the provided RAW file and opening it in Lightroom.
2. Apply basic edits using the “Auto” function to enhance colors and exposure. T
3. hen, use the masking tool to select the sky and adjust its color temperature for a more dramatic effect. This ensures a solid foundation before focusing on composition.

Cropping & Straightening

4. Activate the crop tool (Keyboard Shortcut “R”) to adjust the image’s aspect ratio. 5. Experiment with predefined ratios like 1:1 or 5×7 for specific print sizes.
5. Use the angle tool within the crop panel to straighten the image by drawing a line along a horizontal or vertical reference point. This is particularly useful for correcting tilted horizons or architectural lines.

Perspective & Expansion

Explore the transform panel to correct perspective distortions, especially for architectural images. The “Auto” and “Full” options can automatically align vertical and horizontal lines. For more precise control, use the vertical and horizontal sliders. To expand your crop beyond Lightroom’s capabilities, edit the image in Photoshop using “Generative Expand” to seamlessly add content using AI.

That concludes Day 7! Tomorrow, we’ll be back with more Lightroom learning, diving into the world of color grading.
