This is a Photoshop tutorial covering RAW conversions, color treatment, advanced editing and color work. If you are looking to add subtle or great effects to your image, this is a great lesson for you. We also cover some great clone stamp techniques applicable on any image.

Learn From Start to Finish

You will learn every detail necessary to go from beginning to end in this special color and lighting tutorial.

Photo Shoot

This image was shot on location in the woods of North Carolina. Because we were on location speedlights provided an excellent source of light; they are compact in size and put out enough light to out-power the sun on an overcast day. We placed one of the speedlights close to the subject with a green gel and a diffuser placed over the flash.

Often on location it is easier to use people to hold lights than light stands because they are less susceptible to wind attacks, and they carry themselves.

Turning Day to Night

Doing a photo shoot at night presents a ton of problems, mostly being that cameras love  a lot of light to work well. It is common to not get enough detail in a photo taken at night because shadows go completely to black. In this tutorial you will learn how to take a photo during the day, and make it appear as though it was done at night.

Being able to turn day to night will allow you to decide just how dark you would like your environment to be, giving you complete control over mood.

Special Color Effects

The green color was greatly enhanced in Photoshop, giving the image the look that it is glowing. When adding color in Photoshop it is important to keep highlight and shadow color in balance or the image will not look natural.

Cloning

In the original photo, we used a person to hold the light that casts a glow on the subject, they need to be removed in Photoshop.

You will learn advanced and important cloning techniques to get rid of just about anything in your image.

Special Lighting Effects

Adding  a glow to this plant was all done in Photoshop, as well as the lighting effects around it. When adding a light source, you can make it more believable by adding atmospheric elements such as dust to make it appear more realistic.

More The Phlearn Pro Tutorials have completely changed the way I approach projects in Photoshop.

Not only have I learned so much new material, I've now seen how the tools I used to use on a regular basis used in completely different fashions rendering amazing results. The icing on the cake is all the extras you get with the purchase; the patterns, textures, brushes, actions, etc.

You guys have really built something great here. Thanks a lot!

More As a photographer, I'm constantly working to hone my skills so I can create better and better work for myself and my clients - Phlearn Pro and the community here are an essential part of this. I've spent countless hours and dollars on photography classes but I recommend Phlearn time and time again because I haven't found a better, more up-to-date, or affordable source of Photoshop knowledge than what's available right here.

There are plenty of talented photographers who are mediocre teachers and plenty of gifted teachers without photographic talent. Aaron Nace doesn't have either of those problems

More I've been experimenting with Photoshop for 4 or more years now, and I found myself constantly using the same techniques which did not help me progress and did not make my photos look too realistic. After coming across Phlearn, joining the daily discussions in the episodes and getting a Phlearn Pro video, I realized how much more there is to Photoshop. The episodes opened my eyes to new ways of editing a picture and making it stand out. Aaron covers absolutely everything there is to know about the program!

The Flood Pro episode that I have purchased showed me the process of making an image (explanation of the light sources was very helpful), as well as the post production. I learned how to make the model look perfect yet natural, I learned about making a composite and how to create a mood for the picture, as well as many more ways of creating a photograph that I still use today.

I highly recommend getting a Phlearn Pro to anyone who is interested in taking their creativity to the next level!

More Phlearn takes you step by step on each video going back of items so that you dont have to keep looking in a book. A friend first told me about Phlearn and he and I have told anyone we know about them at the time I was in a class on photography the instructor told all of us point blank that while we had to learn how to edit our own photos it that part of the class would be self study because she did not know how to use photoshop.

Using Phlearn I revamped their ideas with my own photos. I passed the class with an A. After the class I was asked by the instructor if I wanted to teach a photoshop class....My answer was Phlearn.com. I am told the photoshop part of the class has gotten a lot better then it was in my day all thanks to Phlearn.

Even taking into consideration the seemingly endless amounts of free tutorials on the internet,...
More Even taking into consideration the seemingly endless amounts of free tutorials on the internet, I was hard pressed on looking for something that contained a purpose in its teachings. Mostly all you would find is how to apply a one-off text effect you'll never use in your work, or how to pull off a half-baked manipulation where the steps and narration get so verbatim that you get to the point where you'll see yourself following directions for a couple of adjustment layers without any other guidance besides "Set hue to +34, lightness to -7" and so on, and so forth.

Taking this into paid services such as creativeLIVE, or perhaps even Lynda.com; although you do receive some supportive commentary, you'll find yourself doing a lot more review work and get to the end figuring out that the person teaching you this segment might benefit from some tutorials themselves.

I feel as though PhlearnPRO changes this. These tutorials on an arbitrary scale of work are not completely out of the norm, but the combination of thought process and conversation throughout the edit from the sketch to the sharpening will have you interested in the *why* as much if not more than the *how*. This is imperative to visual learners (Which I'm assuming by coming to websites such as these, we all are), and I feel that Phlearn nails this. I knew of the tools of photoshop and how to use them properly, but PhlearnPRO taught me *why* to use them and *when* would be the best time to according to what is on my canvas. That help alone has been immeasurable, and the experience of watching PhlearnPRO has been a pleasurable one, as you get to know Aaron on a professional, as well as personal level.

I recommend this service to anyone who's been looking for that purpose in their post-processing that will give them the drive to execute work that they have had in their heads, and the confidence to follow through without feeling like you've bit off more than you can chew.

More I'm a working photographer who has been learning Photoshop for at least six years and my long term objective is to get to the level of those that do composite work for big brand names in their ad campaigns. I did manage to get so far by watching hundreds of video tutorials out there in internet land but eventually felt that many in the industry were still protecting the insider’s knowledge.

Then came along Phlearn out of the blue breaking the mould in revealing the magician's code of Photoshop advanced techniques via their excellent free and Pro tutorials. They also guide you on all the other stuff you need to know like conceptualizing ideas, cost of doing business, etc.

The vast majority would charge for what you get in a lot of Aaron's free tutorials and you have to agree that the Pro tutorials are available at a very modest cost or the price of a few beers when on sale.
