I had been editing with Photoshop for about 1,5 years already when I discovered Phlearn! It was pretty much at the beginning and if I remember correctly, I found out about it via Aaron's Flickr stream. It must have been around episode 25 or so and ever since then I have been hooked! I loved the old episodes and I love the news ones and I esp. love the Pro Tutorials because it makes you understand the magic behind it!
I used to watch tutorials on YouTube and could never really follow them too well so I gave up eventually, most of the time pretty frustrated because I wanted to improve my skills! Phlearn has showed me the inside secrets of Photoshop and how easy it can be if you know certain things! Thanks to Phlearn, I have improved to a whole new level and I will forever be grateful for that.

I met Aaron at B&H in NYC for a free lesson on retouching a portrait and I was completely blown away by his skills, his style and -of course- enthusiasm! Then I follow the guy on twitter and he announces that he's launching "something" called Phlearn! I give it a try and I became addicted to "phlearn" something new almost every day. Then, he launched the first Phlearn PRO and I became addicted once again. Nothing is left out, he tells you EVERYTHING he knows while he's doing it! You see him doing the stuff step by step, explaining it to you and then you do it and magic happens!! I actually keep notes with the minutes and seconds of the videos of stuff I like to keep for future references (like how to apply some make up or how to put light on a fairy's wings) :D
Phlearn PRO tutorials are phenomenal. Almost all I know in photoshop is thanks to those tutorials. I was completely lost before this, I had some skills but without direction and since Phlearn I've been able to apply Aaron's techniques to my own style and I'm more than satisfied with the results.
I gotta warn you, you'll get used to Aaron's energy and style and it's going to be hard for you to go back other tutorials from another artist.

I've just joined your great Phlearn community... and just bought my first Phlearn Pro tutorial too... (The Last Athlete).
It was really great... In my learning experience, tutorials often goes up to 50 or 60% of the professional level you want to achieve (tech stuff, criteria, lightining, etc) ... the other percentage is totally up to you in your experience and perseverance in your work.... but it always seems to be certain PRO knowlege that is really hard to deduce... and it would take a large amount of hours (or days) to get there.
Although you always have to do your homework, this tutorials really give you that... specialized techinques and very practical ways to solve complex situations, and also... very important... they also train your eye and your brain to get a really good criteria to know what to look for in your images.

I remember having Aaron's images in my collection of inspirational artwork on my laptop when I came to Australia to study Photography in 2008. I had no idea how that awesomeness could be created and was dying to find out. Needless to say, when Phlearn was born it was like a dream come true!
I absolutely love how Aaron is laid back and fun in his video tutorials, it just makes you feel like you're hanging out with a friend, who's teaching you some cool stuff - it's easy to comprehend, it's not tiring and every video is jam packed with golden nuggets of priceless information. The entire website is full of brilliant educational materials.
I wish Phlearn was created 5 years ago, it would have saved me a lot of time learning Photoshop!

Even if you feel comfortable with your photoshop skills, the Pro tutorials will always show you new stuff and things u would have never come up with yourself. They make your work/hobby so much easier and Aaron just makes you want to start with the same thing right away. He makes you smile quite often as well which makes the tutorials phantabulous !!! I simply love Phlearn and the Pro tutorials are just the icing on the cupcake. They are well worth the small amount of money !

I absolutely LOVE Phlearn. It is the #1 site I recommend to anyone wanting to learn about photography or Photoshop. There is just no comparison to the amount of information you get, the quality of it, and the entertainment you get along the way is a big bonus! Aaron Nace is a truly likeable person who very deftly explains sometimes complicated skills in a way that's very easy to grasp. I was good at Photoshop before I discovered Phlearn, but it has taught me SO MUCH. After nearly episode, I find myself exclaiming, "Holy shit, I had no idea!" about some technique or another.
I love the free episodes they make every week, but, my god, the Pro Tutorials are just unbelievable. I have purchased a number of them, including the Nude Flying Fairy and Dark Skies, and the trove of information you get for the price is just unbelievable. Aaron does a spectacular job at breaking down the steps of the photo, making what might seem like an overwhelming edit easy to digest in bite-sized chunks. The level of detail he goes into makes the techniques you learn in each tutorial applicable to any situation you might find yourself in.
You leave each tutorial feeling like a whole new world of Photoshop has been opened up to you that you never knew existed. And better still, if you find you can't quite remember how a particular bit was done, you can replay the video any time you need a refresher. Aaron's playful personality makes all these tutorials so fun; it's like a good friend is in the room with you, helping you understand the task at hand, and never judging.
In short, Phlearn is just THE BEST Photoshop/photography site around, period. After you go through a tutorial, your work will never be the same.

I've been a Photoshop nerd since version 3, and I can tell you that I've had a love/hate relationship with PS since the very beginning. As powerful as it is, PS is also one if the most frustrating and difficult to learn pieces of software I have ever encountered. I used to think of myself as somewhat of a PS "guru", that is until I happened upon the Phlearn website. It was immediately obvious that despite his somewhat cavalier and funny exterior, Aaron was a guy who knew the in's and out's of PS like know one I had seen before.
After viewing countless free tutorials (hey, I'm cheap) I finally broke down and purchased several of the Pro Tutorials and let me tell you that I can unabashedly recommend these tutorials to anyone at any skill level. Anyone who wants to get the most out of PS and increase their productivity and creativity. I have rarely seen a person with a gift and passion for teaching like Aaron and I can honestly say that I have learned and applied something from almost every tutorial I have viewed: Something that cannot be said about every tutorial site I have used and there have been many!!

Living and working in South Korea, it has been very difficult to learn photography and photoshop. Without any friends, or photographers to talk to, I would spend hours browsing the internet, desperately trying to find any tidbit of information that would help me improve. All I could ever find were scraps, the odd tip, conflicting information everywhere, critique without advice, and it was as frustrating as it was confusing.
By chance I stumbled onto Phlearn one day, and was amazed at the idea of the Phlearn PRO's, jaw dropping, beautiful images that I could watch being created from start to finish. I bought one immediately and stayed up late watching it. I was blown away! I now own more than ten. Not only did I learn vast amounts of new techniques, I learned how to look at my own work with a more critical eye, I learned how to make my images believable, and I set a higher bar for myself. As a teacher myself, I really believe Aaron is a great instructor. He's always engaging, fun, infectiously enthusiastic and he holds nothing back, he makes mistakes, he corrects his mistakes, overcomes problems and he will show you what is possible if you keep trying and work hard at your craft.
Sure, other photographers offer 'tell-all' tutorials, but I have found these to have less information and a much higher price tag. Here we have a community. Wherever I am, I'm only a few clicks away from the best photoshop tutorials in the world, and I come back to them often. I'm not a professional photographer, but I love to create and Phlearn has given me the power to create images I am really proud of.

As far as photoshop is concerned I'm very much in the early stages, but the way Aaron teaches even an old non-techie beginner like myself can follow along with plenty to learn in a very understandable way no matter how much, or little, they know.
Someday maybe I'll actually get decent at this stuff, but for now at least I found a place where I can find plenty to keep me going without feeling overwhelmed or intimidated... Proud to be part of the Phamily!!!
