How to use black and white in the right ways

Last week we went over color, and now we will cover black and white. Oftentimes monochrome photos can create more of an emotional impact than color does. Today I will show you a few different tricks that can give a different look and feel to your images, more so then just desaturating them.

    Final entry. Toned down the edge glow- used various layer masks with
    levels adjustments. A couple of high pass filters and a touch of
    awesomeness. Hopefully I used enough awesomeness…
    Second shot is of my dog. I was playing with my flash in a dark room and he didn’t seem to like it. Background is a stock image that seemed pretty fitting overall. Good luck everyone!

    Btw Aaron, thank you for what you’re doing. The second image (of my dog) is probably one of my composites that I’m most proud of. Phlearn is the closest thing that I’ve had to any kind of “formal” photoshop education and I can say that before I started diving into your tutorials this never would have turned out how it did. Thanks for the great phlearning experience!
