10 Minute Tuesday – Egg Head

Compositing, Photoshop Jul 26 , Episode 95

Today we are working on an image by Petter Haugen. He submitted an image, and asked if I could make his face on an egg. Petter gets his wish.

To do this, first we need a quick tool that will copy over most of his head, and make sure to blend it as well. A great option is the Patch tool, however you have to use this tool on a layer with pixels, so a blank layer will not work. To prep our image, simply move the head off the canvas, then make a stamp visible layer. Now that we have a stamp visible, we are ready to make the patch. For source we choose DESTINATION and make a selection around his head. Then click and drag from inside the selection to the egg.

This is going to do most of the work for you, now all you have to do is blend. I did this with a layer mask, and also clone stamping over other eggs. Then we adjust the colors of the darks with levels to make everything blend in :)
If you want to work on this project, you may find the images here.

    Hey Aaron :)

I was wondering if you would be able to do a tutorial on editing and smoothing out skin on Photoshop? I usually do it on Lightroom, but i recently got a new laptop and haven’t had Lightroom installed yet, and was trying to edit some skin yesterday on Photoshop but failed miserably :P That sort of thing could be useful to a lot of people i’m sure :)

OH and I also want to know how you add hair in, like, to the sides of the face? To make the hair look thicker? Just some ideas :D

    Thanks!! xxx

Smoothing skin without using any Blur tools would be good.

I wanna see smooth skin with good texture =D

    This is awesome!

Awesome episode! These are really helpful Aaron!

depending on how much of the skin needs to be retouched its very unlikely that it would take 10 min or less

    Tx alot Aaron!!

Went out pretty well I think. Can expect a perfect result in just 10 minuttes. Lack some depth on the face, but will have an inspired go on this!!

No offence on the title, mmore round thsan egged :-)

And the name was perfect pronounced considering your nationality.

I said this before and I will say it again.  10 minute Tuesday is an AWESOME idea.  I love the speed at which you did this episode.  I love the idea in general and I loves me some Phlearn!

I tried to preserve the eyes and mouth, and just give the skin an eggie texture…
I dont think I achieved it :0/   Looks unprofessional.

One way to figure out the lighting in a photo besides looking at the direction of the shadows, is to look into the eyes and particularly the catch lights in the eyes can help you figure out the type of light used by its shape in the eye as well as the directions it was lit
