How to make Fake Blood In Photoshop

In this tutorial, Aaron Nace covers how to create blood from scratch using Photoshop.

This is a special episode for Halloween week.

We decided to make a place for the blood to come out of the model, so some bite holes seemed appropriate. To make the holes in her neck we need to use some custom brush settings and layer FX. This helps give the holes a bit of depth and texture.

When it comes to the blood, using a reference image, we make a shape using the lasso tool, and then refine the edge to make it a bit more smooth. Then we paint in the selection to make the blood look layered.

To make the effects match the resolution and focus of the final image, we need to give it a bit of blur. From here you are free to move your effect around the image, and choose a place that will best suit the effect. To make the blood look as though it is flowing on the neck of the subject, we use the smudge tool.

Awsome! I followed a tutorial 2 years ago, how to make a severed arm and this was the end result: http://www.fotosidan.se/gallery/viewlarge.htm?ID=1852650&target=_blank
all the credits to the tutorial, but it was really fun to do. Maybe do something similar, but more gross :)

Great one. Dig it when you bring up the fx!! Add a recipe for making your own blood and a pircture with it in it. Thought I found a pretty decent mixture conserning flowability and colour.

Would also like to see a nasty scar or scartissue or fleshwound?!!?

Awesome! Yeah I would like to see a scar, flesh wound, stitches. Another thing I would like to see is solid black eyes with highlights. Keep up the great work!

Also what I find the best way to network and meet new models and make up artists is to use sites like Model Mayhem or StarNow =]

Hey Aaron.  I would like to know if you would share some of your secrets for using anatomy in your images.  I want to do a Werewolf transformation series and I think this would be very handy.

I’m also struggling with finding models and make up artists. I have never used them before, so don’t really know what to ask someone in terms of experience.  Any suggestions?

Hey Aaron, great video I loved it! What I’m struggling with in photography is studio lighting. The only thing I’ve worked with is my one strobe, and natural lighting, and I find hot lights, soft boxes, and strobe kits very hard. I’m just not used to it yet I guess.

And a suggestion for a Halloween PHLEARN, maybe solid white eyes, or solid black eyes, and how to make them look believable and real. :)
